In the spirit of my previous thread "Which Car Company is Truest to its Brand", I would like to ask you, which company is really out to lunch?

OK guys, this is killing me and don't laugh, but what does IMHO mean?

quote:
Originally posted by InDy:
Some of the GM brands are okay, but Buick IMHO has no direction or purpose.
-Drew

Oldsmobile. Even GM gave up on them.
Other than that, Ford. After looking at http://www.autoweek.com/cat_content.mv?port_code=autoweek&cat_code=carnews&loc_code=index&content_code=04175207 I realized there was nothing in the Ford lineup I was remotely interested in. I mean, it was all blech.
I might be the next Irv Gordon with my S60!!!

GM - hopefully Bob Lutz can shake things up - loks like the new GTo will be a god start.
BUT...
"VW (and VW related brands) definitely"
Huh? Their cars are flying off of lots, they can't make enough of them (the W8 is an exception).
Their products are honestly good cars, and buyers are responding.

I'd say GM is right were they should be, producing some the worst quality vehicles with the exception of their pick-up trucks.
My vote goes to Nissan, for not unloading the full potential of the Skyline GT-R to the world before taketh away. Also Mazda for removing the RX7 but I guess thats more of our fault for not buying them. The new RX8 looks crappy although I know little about it.
Honerable mention goes to Honda's styling design department for the '03 cars. YIKES!

I would have to vote for Porsche. They are developing a V8 for a 911 based car and they have the Cayenne suv. Unless they plan to have the Cayenne in some sort of Baja-like offroad racing or as a major force in the Paris-Dakkar rally, they should leave that idea to the VW Touareg which is the same platform. Porsche has always been a major force in racing with it's cars, like Ferrari's cars, being close relatives to the racing machines. As far as the V8 goes, I like them but in a 911?! They learned their lesson with putting engines other than the Flat-6 in the 911-based cars with the 912. That V8 better all-out haul! The existing 6 is one evil machine. Though it would be cool if they brought back the big flat 12 twin huffer that was in the 917 many moons ago. Those made a most magnificent howl!

The flat 6 is a beauty, thats for sure. I'm sure it would still be in 90% of all 911s right? I bet on the race track having those extra two cylinders to tweek will be advantage Porsche in the Lemans & GT series. Seems like all the competition is running 8, 10 & 12 cylinders.

Of course I will always have a Volvo in the driveway, that will be my fun car. I actually have pics of what the next GT-R is supposed to look like (not photoshopped), it has distinct differences with the G35 appearance (Yay again!). similar headlights and taillights to the R-34. The pics are scanned out of a Japanese magazine.
I hope to hell it comes to these shores! AT least were finally getting the EVO Lancer next year!

Meaning there is nothing new, everything they sell is the same thing over and over.
Nissan is not out to lunch, everything they sell is new or will be redesigned soon. Well except two models.
Sentra was redesigned in 2000, 2002 came out with the SER.
Altima was redesigned in 2002, and won North American car of the year.
Maxima was redesigned in 2000, and will be agian in spring of next year.
Frontier has evolved in the past couple years, with the newest one with available supercharger.
Xterra came out in 2000 and was SUV of the year. A few major changes 2002 such as supercharger.
Out to lunch models
Pathfinder has been the same since 96. Trim, headlights, grill, wheels, and engines have changed over the years.
Quest has always been a crappy minivan, probably because it is built by Ford. So in 2003 it is discontinued until the 2004 model comes out. This time it will be built by Nissan.
Completely new Vehicles
350Z
Murano
New Quest
Full Size Truck
Full Size SUV
