I'm new to this forum and community so forgive me if this post breaks any rules.

I have recently purchased a 2007 XC90 with the 4.4l v8 (b8444s) which needs a little bit of work done but I am struggling to find a place where I might purchase a good service repair manual for the car. I am in the process of replacing a head gasket as well as (possibly) the PCV valve, and I am looking for torque specs mainly but some diagrams would be nice.

Does anybody have experience or recommendations for this model?

Your best choice for all information you will need is the factory service manual. (it's parts, diagnostics, service procedures, schedules, specifications, wiring diagrams, everything you need to fix your car.)

It's called VIDA. You can purchase a subscription from volvo @ volvotechinfo.com. OR

You can easily find free on the internet - the stolen and hacked VIDA 2014d. That is info for up to 2015 year model cars and came on a double sided DVD. If you want to plug in and read codes and stuff -(everybody does) you will need a dice unit. The factory dice unit will be needed to download new software (you won't need to do that) or you can buy a clone. I spent $85 on a clone a few years ago. You will need a win 7pro CPU to install the software on - but any other "service/repair manual" is a waste of time. Others have win10 solutions or sell memory sticks with vida preinstalled also.

Fully agree, VIDA is the best way to go in my opinion (there's a sh*t-tonne of good information in there). And you're asking the perfect questions as a "new" XC90 owner, congrats on your purchase.

The interface to the vehicle is DICE which plugs into the OBD port. If you're going to make an investment in your vehicle, this is one very good place to start. VIDA has every single thing you'll need to maintain your V8 other than the tips along the way (those are more often back in the "How-To" sticky-OFFICIAL: XC90 Part Number & "How to" Thread | SwedeSpeed - Volvo Performance Forum .

But get VIDA downloaded and running while you figure where to source a DICE, that way you can start reading up.

Hi there; I recently started working on a 2007 XC90 4.4 V8 AWD and would like to find a repair service manual. I've been working on it replacing the alternator of which was a bear of a job because it was not charging and I also replaced all the gaskets on top of the engine because the rear valve cover gasket was leaking all over the alternator. Now the alternator charges fine at 14 volts but the charge light is on and the SERVICE POWER SYSTEM URGENT is displayed. It is a new alternator I installed and from what I've read on Google the ECM is no communicating with the alternator. Anyone know what wire pin number that would be at the ECM.

What brand of alternator did you install?

And there's only 2 wires going to the alternator. It communicates on the small D+61 wire.

@Danny Pritt , the V8 alternator has a default 13.9 VDC output when it's not being managed by the ECM/CEM (either or both can manage the Alternator Control Module). Physical connectivity is a single green wire from B1 terminal (B2 in connector not used) on the ACM to A:25 terminal on the ECM. ACM is controlled via LIN bus to manage output voltage.

I cannot recall the posts as they're pretty far back but I've seen a few where the alternator was the wrong part. As noted above, if this is not a Volvo part or a genuine Bosch AL0821X, it's anyone's guess which is at fault to prevent the ACM from managing the output. Great that you did the valve cover gaskets and there is a good amount of informaiton in the "How To" sticky specific to the V8. A running copy of VIDA is the best single resource for this vehicle, you can find it on the site in the OBD forum. Well worth the time and effort to source and get installed.
