So its spring install day for me. I woke up good and early so I could do it without being bothered.
I jacked up the car and pulled off the lug nuts easily.
However the wheels are stuck on!! I tried pulling hard, kicking them, then I came back with a 5lb sledge hammer to hit them from the back, and yet they're still on. Mind you I havent removed my wheels since I got the car. So about 2 years. WTF!
I sprayed the crack between the hub and wheel with wd40 then came back and hit it again with a sledge hammer. Still nothing. IDK what to do.

^lol
Just keep working at it. Give it a little kick with the bottom off your foot at the bottom of the wheel/tire on the tire facing you. Then turn the wheel and repeat. Keep doing this and it should work lose. Make sure you are securing the car with chocks and stands. Also sand the hubs and wheels where they meet the hubs with ~200 before you put the wheel back on. Good luck!

My brother in law had the same thing happen, I believe he said force and patience were the key...good luck! Also, wd-40 is a lubricant, not an anti-seize formula if I'm correct...try pb Blaster

Re: (BtownVolvo)

This happened on both of my S40's when i removed the stock sags to put aftermarket wheels on. Kick the bottom of the tire and it will come off...Be aggressive, but don't break anything!

Re: Wheels stuck!! (zerocover)

This can happen, if the wheel and hub weren't prepared with a little grease. The alloy wheel reacts with the steel hub and they can stick pretty tight. They'll separate, with care. Be sure to lube the centering flange when you put them back.
Tom.

Exactly what Tom said! I have been cleaning and reapplying antisieze to the center flange each seasonal wheel change.

make sure, for your healths sake that your are only doing it on jackstands....
ive almost had a car fall off a jack onto me, never again
grab it from oppisite sides and pull, couple of impact shots w a sledge or something after pb blaster should do the trick very well...

Re: Wheels stuck!! (tmtalpey)

When this used to happen on my '90 VW Corrado, I loosened the lug bolts. Then I rocked the car forward and back by myself (just a foot ot two). This will break the bond created by the alloy wheels to the brake disc.
Tom's correct: with the wheels off, put some grease on the break rotors where the wheel rim makes contact. This will help you greatly next time you remove the wheels.
John

Re: Wheels stuck!! (Parts @ Boston Volvo)

Just about every volvo rotate that i do requires hitting the back of the wheels with my soft blow hammer a few times to break them free lol. Just a common place thing for me. But the grease idea isnt bad
