So I live out here around San Francisco which is wonderful except for a few thing, on of which being the incredibly crappy roads. Any native SF driver can dodge pot holes like none other.

I'm currently running stock 18" Pegs, however, I've been debating purchasing 17" wheels. Not only do I have a wider variety of aesthetic choices, but they are way cheaper then purchasing an 18" aftermarket wheel, and most importantly, they should ride a little better then the 18's do, right?

So the question is, for those who have run both 17's and 18's on their R, which rides better, especially on rougher roads? This topic could also be highly debatable, so feel free to squabble amongst yourselves as I glean the knowledge I'm seeking from your experiences

Feel free to take all factors into the equation, my car may be stock now, but if you add springs or sways in with a particular wheel, or you want to point out specific weather differences, as it does rain here a bit, and other differences such as race quality, road trip quality, exc.

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks,

-Chris http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

I drove 3 different R's with 18"s and they rode quiet a bit stiffer than 1 R that had 17"s. Advanced seemed much much softer, reduces the road feel though.

Definitely rides better on 17's (even though mine are snows). The additional weight of the 18's probably has something to do with it as well.

Chris i know these roads you speak of lol,, the new construction on 80 makes me cringe everytime i drive my R down to the Bay. I have 18 inch Pegs and also 17inch rims with snowtires and the ride is alot more forgiving than the 18's. The side walls on the snows are stiffer. I swapped them out and drove around to allevaite the fuel CEL issue i was having but i noticed the ride change was noticable. I havent even used advance as much as i would like since i got out here. In dever and driving out to Sacramento it was on most of the time. The roads here are horrible!! DAMN YOU CALIFORNIA!!

During CA recent budget tom foolery, road repair is cut 40%. Expect our wonderfully crappy roads to get even worse

I am thinking of swapping out my 18s for some 17s if my local roads turn from their current state of crap to hellish crap.

Thanks for the offer but I will never let go of my 18s, I love them like I love Megan Fox, shezow!!

If anything I would keep the 18s and ride the 17s and swap them back and forth or some crap, I don't know I am currently talking out of my butt at the moment.

"At this time I ask that everyone stop trashing California and its lack of roadway maintenance. As most of you are aware, Barack and I are diligently working hard to spend billions of your hard-earned tax dollars supporting the illegals, especially providing them with healthcare and an excellent California education. Again, we could care less about our crummy roads damaging your Volvo rims, especially considering we are going to mandate you all drive 3 horsepower golf carts in the near future. Yes, we here in California are green. Looking forward to serving you forever by removing term limits, destroying capitalism with socialism for all, yours truly, -Nancy Pelosi"

The 17's ride much much better IMO. We have crappy rodes here in PA. I have 18" pegs and bought 17" Ronals for dedicated snow tires. big difference in ride (I usually drive in sport mode). I ended up also buying some 17" Mille Miglia's from a former R owner that I know use in the summer.

Basically I got tired of having 4 blowouts on my 18's over the year. Luckily I purchased the wheel and tire warranty for about $150 when I bought the car - paid for itself several times over - but now that is expired so I am sticking to the 17's. The ride is better and I don't have to worry as much about the potholes

Which reminds me - I gotta get around to listing my 18" pegs for sale
