My left rear wheel bearing is failing. Looks like no one sells just the bearing so I can pull the old one from the hub and press the new one in. Does anyone know the part number of just the bearing so I don't have to waste money on the hub? Thank you for your help.
Nelson
2005 XC90
60k miles

Press out the old hub bearing and take it to a bearing supply shop that deals with industrial bearings and see if there isn't a suitable replacement based on its identifying features.
The bearing in question is bound to have been produced by the likes of NTN, SKF, etc.

you can not replace just the bearing it is not available. you need to replace the hub assembly.

The entire hub assembly requires replacement. Its a fairly easy installation and only requires a few hours labor if your not covered under any type of warranty.

Volvo only offers the whole hub. If you could get the bearing, I am sure you could get a machine
shop to press the existing one out and press in a new one. Volvo probably gets the hub assembly
complete from an outside vendor, so that is all they offer.
It is just like any dealer only selling a whole unit when all you need is the little O-ring.

Re: Wheel bearing - Possible to just replace the ... (dmd)

The R&R of this hub assembly is like two hours, even if you cut the cost of parts by only buying a bearing the amount of time charged to the customer to press a new one in would equal or possibly be more.
Replacing the hub is what volvo found to be most cost effective and ultimately the only route available. If you inspected this style of hub you would not want to press a bearing let alone if its even possible im not sure. Its not like the 2000-04 S40's in which we do bearing replacements which is like 4 hours labor and about as much as a XC90 wheel hub
