I am curious if someone can chime in with experience in this department.
I have been blessed and never had to deal with one so I am not sure what I should be looking for.
The previous owner of our S40T5AWD has Heico springs on it and I am not sure how much extra stress that puts on the wheel bearings. I had to swap cars with my GF this morning because she has a much longer commute to work than I do and she heard a noise when leaving for work that she described as nails on a chalkboard when driving and braking. There has been another noise which I have witnessed and intended to address which almost sounds like a piece of plastic rubbing against the tire, and it only occurs when coming to a stop. (Remember the days of putting a playing card on your back tire on your bicycle? lol)
When she stopped by my office to swap cars, I took hers out and beat on it pretty aggressively but was not able to reproduce the squealing; could only reproduce the rubbing sound.
The wheel wells are unobstructed and nothing is coming into contact with any wheels/tires, and all 4 corners are fine as far as brakes go. I am going to pull the wheel off after work this afternoon, but I doubt I will visibly see anything.
My first thought is wheel bearing, but since I haven't ever experienced one, I am not positive.
