Hi everyone. I need some help. the timing belt in my 2.3l (c70) slips off of a pully because the housing that holds the ball bearings in broke. i know its hard to explain, but if anyone could tell me the name of the pully that my finger is pointing to in the picture so i can order a new one that would be great. thank you for the help

Isn't there a clip that's suppose to hold the TB on and not that pulley. Not exactly sure but seems it someone attaches on or near that pulley. Others should chime in.

Re: whats this? (spedridr)

Yikes if i am seeing what i think i am it is the TB tensioner assy. DId it come off while the car was running? GOD I hope not! If it did you need a new head or eng. Other possible is a TB IDLER pully on the case. Either way bad news if car is running when it comes off. It will bend things(valves/dent top of pistons) badley. How many miles was on the S70? and if you did the TB at teh correct time did you do the whole job with tensioner? If not you have you answer now why they DO THAT!

70,000 miles on the c70. what happend is if the timing belt started to slip off while i was driving and oddly enought the plastic was keeping it on, but i could here the tb running agains the plastic. so i took it all off, the tb basicly just slipped right off into my hand. than the pull the tb was on just slipped off too, and all all the ball bearings fell out. so i dont think i hurt anything yet, my timing should still be good.
there is a tension leaver of some sort on the pully that is still attached to the engine. is that the TB idler pully?
thanks for all the help...i need to get this running

That's one of the strangest things I ever heard. Also, if you really did turn off the engine while it was still running you are one of the luckiest people on this board.
I would suggest that you have it done by a pro, your luck has really held out here so why take a chance? It's not a really expensive job anyway
JRL

Re: whats this? (spedridr)

The pulley is just an idler pulley, part of the belt tensioner. Which appears to be missing in your picture - I assume that's the housing you refer to.
You can get kits to repair the entire belt tensioner, which is what you really want, not just the pulley. Good luck!
Tom.

That's a darn good price for the job+parts. You'd need the tb anyway, installation is trickier than you might think, too.
Tom.
