What's the top speed you have taken your XC90? And what model is it? Care to share so as we all know how capable / incapable this machine is. Thanks in advance.
Eric

Re: What's the top speed you have taken your XC90? (sinner108)

I had our pervious T6 up to about 115MPH or so. I don't think I've had our v8 past 95-100 yet, don't recall. Not somehting I do a lot. The vehicle feels very solid, even at higher speeds. Problem going really fast are all the umknowns, like wildlife!

Somewhere between 135 and 140 MPH, till fuel was restricted, I guess, as I could not accelerate more, on a long flat stretch of I-15. My 2.5T AWD felt very solid, but the tire, engine and wind noise were too unsettling to keep that speed for a long time.
But, when we got our car through OSD, we took it on a long trip around Europe, and had a lot of long stretches at 125 mph (200 kmh) in Germany and France.

Re: What's the top speed you have taken your XC90? (spideyman)

Thanks for sharing. I am glad the ride is able to take the speed at 115 - 140 as some of you said. I have a 2.5T AWD for about 2 wks. Still running in the engine, as it has less than 1700 mile on the clock. I love this machine so far, and certainly wondering if it can really deliver as what it claims. Doing good 4x4 running on (limited) off-roads - and a good comfy family workhorse on motorways. I always bring my previous rides to the speed limit of the machine. Just that this is a SUV, the size makes me feel uncomfortable at high speed, though I have not taken it up to those speed level yet. As I am running in my car, i have taken it to max 80mph and I didn't dare take it further for obvious reasons. I am looking for assurance that this ride is able to hack it at high speeds (on motorway of course) as I can't wait to bring it there really.

we have had our 2005 T6 up to 121mph during our OSD trip in 2004. Very stable and quiet.

I thought they all had limiters on them not to exceed 120mph.......just curious how you had yours over that

Re:

I read somewhere that the XC90 V8 is supposed to have a software speedlimiter set at 130 mph. Our V8 hit the software limit at 120ish. Very nice, docile engagement, the vehicle just refused to go any faster. Rock solid at 120. When I lived in Europe, I routinely traveled the Autobahn in the 90-100 mph range, sometimes faster if I didn't care about fuel consumption levels.
When we did our 120 mph dash (lasted about 50 km), I don't remember the RPMs being as high as they are in the above photo. Were you still accelerating when you took the picture?

Re: Re: (bigtomhammer)

that is exactly the reason.......aarrgghhh, 4 speed tranny's.
btw, we were traveling at this speed for about 5 minutes, and no matter what we did, we couldn't go faster. I even turned my baseball hat backwards for better aerodynamics.

130 mph is no problem at all for a Euro-spec. Feels very safe at that speed!

100 MPH. 2.5T FWD. Attained it effortlessly, felt very stable and smooth...I would have gone for more, but the Board of Director told me to knock it off.
But they change the limiter to about 150mph
