Hi guys, I'm new to this board. My mom just bought a 98 S70 so I took it for a spin yesterday and it impressed me with its quality, comfort and all the options.
I own a modded 97 Nissan Maxima which is a great car for now, but I wanna go with something more luxury without losing the performance at the same time. My mom's S70 seems to be slower than my Maxima, so I guess my two greatest concerns are performance (the more HP the better ) and leg room. I'm 6'5", so I'm looking for a Volvo model with enough leg room.
Any advices on what my options might be? Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Andy

Depends what your price range is Andy. If you have the money, an S70 T-5 or V70 T-5 would be the way to go (T-5 is a turbocharged 5cyl motor). There is the V70 R AWD, a wagon with more power than the T-5 and all-wheel-drive, but that car is rare and considerably more expensive. If you are in the low teens, you can't go wrong with an 850 Turbo or an 850 T-5, both the same car, this is the turbo version of the older model of what your mom has. The only downside to the 850 is it is not quite as rigid and more prone to rattles inside, though the quality is still very good.
There's always the S40 as well, but the 40-series is considerably smaller than what you described, and hasn't been around as long, so if you are into modding, there's not quite as much out there....

Andy,
If I were in your shoes, I would consider getting a nice S70 T-5 with a 5-speed. You could also find yourself a nice used 850R, but it does not come with a 5-speed, only automatic. Chipping any of the above will make them a lot faster than a stock Max SE.
Also, since you are 6.5", the 850/70 series should fit you quite well, considering they have great comfy seats. The best thing about these cars is that they have an extremely high stealth factor.
-Drew

Thanks guys. I think I'm gonna go to a Volvo dealership, testdrive a couple of cars and then compare.
