Hi,
I just washed and dried my car, and then I noticed some marks on the front bumper.
After close inspection, I rubbed the marks with my finger and it flaked away. The more I rubbed, the more this clear flake stuff came off and was making the area look worse.
It seems as if the car has some kind of clear coat on it and its coming off. It looks like dried-up glue. Does anyone know what this is and how I can get my car paint back to normal?

Re: Whats that stuff flaking off the paint? (Token)

It's clearcoat, it means someone repainted your bumper poorly.
Real PIA must be sanded completely off as you cannot use paint stripper on plastic then repainted properly.
This is only going to get worse

Re: (Token)

Not necessarily.
Most Volvo bumpers get scraped (and often) and the dealer repaints them before selling the car, Usually these are done quickly and cheaply, yours apparently was done VERY quickly
I've NEVER seen a factory painted bumper have any paint issues

Re: (Token)

I just had my front and rear bumpers sanded and painted over as I had some serious paint chips and dents on them, cost was pretty pricey but I guess you get what you pay for (most of the time)

I pay about 125-150 per bumper

When it comes to p/x time, the dealers are always quick to get fixated on paint jobs.
I guess you thought it was worth paying for all that work instead of changing the car? But for an extra 700 euros, you could have sold the car and waited a little longer to buy a different C70. Maybe a 2003 S60R if you're feeling flush. This is my current dilema. The longer I wait, the more the car loses value. But at the same I am spending lots of money on the car. So I really will lose a hell of a lot of money.

Re: (Token)

The rest of the car is still is very good shape, but the repainted front and rear almost give the car an out of the showeroom look. The car looks fantastic.
But an extra 700 would not get me a different C70, at least not in Saffron and with the interior color of this one (all black leather/suade with aluminum trim). It would certainly not have gotten me an S60R, those are still in the mid 30K range.
Now that I look on the website where I found my C70, I see a bunch of 1st gen V70R's in Saffron and Laser Still wonder if I did the right thing by getting a C70 instead of a V70R

Changing the car instead of just painting the bumpers, are you totally NUTS?

Re: (Token)

I guess that's all relative to how much more you can save in that amount of time.
Besides, the S60R doesn't come in Saffron as standard

Thats true, but my C70 is black (with numerous problems) and I quite fancy the Flash Green S60R even though it will make me look like an old man with a mid-life crisis.
I think the problems I am having are only on my car. I drove a 2000 model C70 with 70K miles and it felt perfect. Not a rattle anywhere.
But mine is a 2003 with only 20K miles and its a headache to be in. The car rides ok, but it makes plenty of racketing noises on rough surfaces. And the windows seem to make really loud tapping/popping noises if its being driven for the first time that day.
Its a love/hate relationship thats beginning to take over my life.
