I saw a dealer ad that said "XC70 R"
What does the R mean?

Sounds like a dealer that doesn't know a V from a XC. One can have an AWD V70R but it is not an XC due to the ride height difference

There's more differences than just ride height. Perhaps the dealer had an extra R badge lying around and stuck it on?

That wouldn't surprise me especially if it's a used car at a non-Volvo dealer.

No, it's on Sandberg Northwest Volvo's website. They're in Washington state.
It also says the exterior color is pewter, which I believe is not an '04 XC70 color.

Yes...and the color is Titanium Grey. Pewter? We got no stinking pewter. And the interior...by "charcoal" they must mean Nordkap, which is not charcoal color at all in appearance but dark blue.

May be similar to XC70ASR. Just upgraded from a 2002 V70 2.4T to a 2004 XC70 and XC70ASR was printed on the bill of sale. The manager explained it as A - Automatic, and SR for sunroof if I remember correctly. He also said that for the 2004 anyway, that all came with a sunroof and were automatic so there was no need to list that but what do I know. I have not picked up the car yet. Saturday is the big day.

It's not there anymore (on their website), but there is a "2004 Volvo V70 R AWD A SR" in pewter now!!!
