So I was on Volvo's site and noticed they had a "special edition" S60 T5 out now.
Almost the same base price as the R, only with less power (257hp), FWD, and less features.
I looked at the features page, and guess which car isn't listed in the comparison by default?
http://www.volvocars.us/Showro...tures/

The "Special Edition" is basically the "Chrono Edition" that has been offered in Europe for years. It's still a nice car, but no R.

An auto S60 R has a base MSRP of $39,625. That is $2,020. The T5 SE comes with the Satellite Radio installed. That is an additional savings of about $750. So, the difference, to start with, is $2,700+.
Yannis

the price difference even at the extreme margins in this thread should easily provide the tools for a salesman to justify the price difference from these 2 cars. A brembo upgrade on the T5 and you are above the cost of the R. Not to mention AWD, 300hp and a much better looking car; inside and out just to name a few items. Many have mentioned on here that they could "afford" an M3 or S4 but the R seemed a better "value" for your money. A better value does not always mean it has to be cheaper.
From being in sales for some time now (I am still young) and being a sales trainer for a fortune 500 company at one time and executive at a software reseller I can tell you this... If all you focus on is price ans cost alone then the Ford taurus will win over the S60 all day long... You can't sell with price as a vehicle feature; it's not! Look at the value and features anf the R will sell over the T5 SE anyday!

There are plenty of dealers that will "deal" on the R and a few that won't in my experience. My local dealer who I bought our XC90 from would not negotiate anything reasonable on the R I was interested in and they still have it an have had it since at least last September. I went elsewhere to purchase and believe I got a fair price.

What to make of the "Special Edition" T5?
What to make is to move this to the Car Forum or the S60 forum.
Does NOT belong here

There is a big difference between 2-5K and 15-20K in price differences. People buy volvo because they see the saftey and refinement as features... over say a camry or taurus. If price is the ONLY factor then they would shop for a budget car. You have to find the buyers criteria for making a buying decision and cater to those needs.
