Primary reason for the T6 choice: I will be towing a 3,600 Lbs. ski boat on the weekends, 150 mile round trip to lake.
In the Atlanta, GA market. Looking at the following XC90 at a Volvo Dealer:
2003 XC90 T6, White paint, Taupe interior. 46,000 miles
3rd Row Seat, Wood Steering Wheel, 18" Wheels with Michelin 5/32" tread on front, 9/32 tread on rear.
Vehicle is very clean, leather in great shape, carpet in great shape, paint very good. Engine compartment clean. No visible oil leaks from below. (yes, I climbed onder car and looked at catch pan)
Drove very well. Quiet ride, HVAC was quiet, trans. shifting in auto and manual was smooth.
They are asking $33,000 with an extended warranty to 10 years or 100,000 miles.
I really did not want to pay any more than $28,000, as many similar XC90's from dealers are selling for $24,000 - $28,000 on eBay and similar sites.
So, how much should I be paying for this XC90?
Thank you all for your time...
Scott K.

Modified by tweekme at 12:11 PM 3-28-2006

Re: What should I be paying for a 2003 XC90 T6 ?? (tweekme)

IMO, I wouldn't pay more than $30K for that vehicle. The 2003's had numerous growing pains, particularly the T6. The gas mileage is also atrocious due to it's 4 speed automatic.
Even with the certified warranty, you may be in for some annoyances with this vehicle. In addition, the Haldex AWD system is FWD based so the tires with the better tread should be in the front.

Thank you for the reply...
Interesting, I have really not found that many major issues discussed on this site on the T6. I did find many minor annoyances, cup holder, radio, seat memory, etc... all fixed.
Am I missing any major issues?
Thanks, Scott K.

Re: What should I be paying for a 2003 XC90 T6 ?? (tweekme)

Scott,
I LOVE my XC90, and personally I wouldn't pay anything for a 2003 T6. You've gotta figure there's got to be some strong reasons for a company to stop selling a vehicle after only 3 production years. Lot's of problems with the 03 T6.....transmission, alignment, suspension, elctrical, etc. CR (for what it's worth) lists it as one of the "used cars to avoid".
If you can't afford to reach up to an 05 V8, I'd stick with the 2.5 litre. Here in Atlanta, it should be enough to pull the boat to Lanier or Allatoona and back.
Otherwise, I'd look at something else like a Durango or something and go back for a XC90 V8 after a couple more years of depreciation when they're in your price range.

That is an aftermarket DVD player, by Audiovox. There is an LCD central flip down screen on the ceiling of the vehicle, similar to the early one Volvo offered.
Thanks, Scott K.

Re: What should I be paying for a 2003 XC90 T6 ?? (KAOS1972)

Thank you for the reply, KAOS1972... yes, I am beginning to see the possible issues on the T6, however, arent the alignment, suspension, elctrical, etc. the same on the 2.5T ?? I also have not read that many serious issues on the T6 on this forum.
Some folks have said there are many serious issues on the T6, but I have yet to read lots of posts about them. I'm not gunning for the T6. It just seems that there are not a lot of posts. If others here on the forum can point me in the direction of these posts, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks, Scott K.

Like any vehicle, some people have had good and bad experiences with the T6 trim. Take it for a good drive and if you like it.....get it!
I have had some quirks, but overall we LOVE it.
Tim

Re: What should I be paying for a 2003 XC90 T6 ?? (tweekme)

FWIW, I have a T6 and the only problem it had was a bad exhaust pipe that caused an engine shutdown. This was dealt with as a warranty issue. Other than that, the car has been great.
In the annoyance level, there is only one detail specific to the T6 that could be better: the 1-2 gear shift. The latest software update improved a lot, but the jerk is still there.
All other problems are irrelevant of trim level: 2.5T, T6 or V8.
Regarding alignment issues, some (all?) MY2003 cars had an alignment problem which was corrected with improved specs. This was not T6-specific.
Finally, last I checked, the T6 is still sold outside of the US. VCNA decided to not bring the T6 anymore in favor of the V8, which was thought to be more desirable. That decision had nothing to do with whether the T6 was good or not.

Re: What should I be paying for a 2003 XC90 T6 ?? (ig_mb)

I've got a question pertaining to the suspension issues. Since no one else seems to have the rattles and heavy bangs from any other engine tranny combination but the T6. What is the weight of the combo? Is it heavier than either the 2.5T and the V8?
BTW 33K is too much for an 03. Offer them 28K and see where they go. If they took it in trade they probably only gave between 24 and 25 for it.

Re: What should I be paying for a 2003 XC90 T6 ?? (Aztecian)

Yeah, I did make them an offer for $27,500 today. They said, no way, and would not go below $33,000. I told them they were crazy not to even counter-offer on a vehicle that has been on there lot for over 14 months... So, I am looking at other local dealers, and eBay Motors as well.
Thanks, Scott K.

There comes a time when you have to cut bait and cut the losses. Walk away and if they come back....fine. They obviously don't have many prospects.
