well some californians here should know whats good in these temps.<P>Synthetic or regular as well?<P>i got lots of regular 10w-30 and some 10w-40 by Vavloine.<P>what do you use? recommendations?

But word has been going on around the net that Mobil 1 is no longer going full synthetic since they lost that lawsuit against Pennzoil or Castrol or something. So it's half'n'half. For the next oil change, I'm probably switching to Amsoil.

Hmm..I'm still researching on this one. Used to use the old school theory and had 15W50 for a good long time.<P>Now, I believe I'm only using 10W40 synthetic. I have to double check with the shop what they dump in there last time.<P>Hhehe...so I'd better not comment anything on this until I find a good answer for this.

First I read that the new SL rated Mobil 1 was using petroleum basestock, and then I read that they actually weren't using it. So, I'm not sure at this point. The tests I've seen show an increase in volitility and a decrease in flash point, neither of which is a good sign.<P>There's no way the new Mobil 1 is better, but it's a matter of how much worse it is, and is it better than the synthetic blends from other companies.<P>There should still be a long thread going at the 1.8T forum at VWvortex (under tech. forums) about the new Mobil 1. I'll add the link later.<P>I would use Amsoil, if I did use synthetic.<P>
