I see that on Volvo Canada a Foldable hitch with 2" towball is listed as an option.
I assume it's simply a 2" ball for a 1 1/4" receiver?

Planning for MY24 and wondering if the foldable would suit for my trailer.
Height from ground to top of ball would be of concern.
If anyone has the measurement it would be one less concern for me :)

We have a 2022 XC60T8 (not ER) with the factory hitch that we got in Sept 2021. It has the air suspension so the ball height varies with drive mode but does not change with the load on the ball. We made the following measurements by changing the drive mode, driving around the block, and then making the measurement. Keep in mind this is over asphalt and we only did this once so I would allow for some variability. The measurements are to the flat spot on the top of the ball. The first measurement (Still) I believe was the lowered mode for entry/exit of the vehicle.

Still 16"
Hybrid 18 1/2"
Power 17 1/2"
Pure 18"
OffRoad 20"
AWD 18 1/2"

These measurements were made with the AOSS version it came with. I don't believe they have changed with the updates but I have not checked.

Thank you. Was hoping for a bit less height. Can you use a regular ball mount with the retractable to adjust height or is it a special ball mount that is unique/exclusive to Volvo?

Am I correct to assume the ball mount is removed before retracting the hitch?

The depth of the opening into the receiver is smaller than most receivers. That means that most of the bars you find are too long. I bought a bar to see if something would work. These bars come in short and long. I ordered the short but got the long. I dropped the ball on exchanging it so ended up keeping the long whose part number is 36053 or A11802. If you follow up on this you most likely want the corresponding short part - not what I ended up with. To let it fit into the Volvo receiver I milled 0.290 inch off of the end of the bar. The bar on the part I have is solid so I did not remove an end cap which would have weakened the part. My notes don't record how much that lowered the ball relative to the Volvo part but my memory is it was about an inch.

It seems that a search for "36051 drawbar" returns a number of drawbars that have a 1 1/4 inch shank and 7" from hole to hole (several inches shorter than the one I got). One of those is probably what you want. But most likely all will need to have the end milled off because of the short receiver on the current Volvo retractable hitch.

The drawbar does come out of the receiver before the receiver is stowed.

When I follow the link above I end up at a Curt 45502. There is a comment there on the length from the pin to the back that indicates it should fit. There is also a drawing that shows the ball top as 3/4 inches below the top of the bar. I measured the ball top relative to the bar top on the Volvo part. It is 3 5/8 inches. So that 45502 will drop the ball top 4 3/8 inches relative to the Volvo part. I also measured the overall length of the Volvo part as 7 1/2 inches. The 45502 overall length is listed as 8 3/4 inches. So it adds roughly 1 1/4 inches onto the lever arm. There are threads where it is argued that this should lead to lowering the tongue weight limit. But as best I can tell that part is a possible solution if you want to drop the ball height on the order of 4 inches.

Below I have summarized the options I see. Note that the 36051 requires milling .290 off the end of the bar and it will extend the lever arm by 2 1/2 inches but it provides an intermediate ball height about 2 inches below the Volvo part.

Ball top is relative to the top of the bar.
Drop is ball height relative to the Volvo.
Volvo Ball top 3.625 Length 7.5
Curt 45502 Ball top -.75 Length 8.75 Drop 4.375
36051 Ball top 1.5 Length 10.2 Drop 2.125
