I have been having this problem for a while now. Usually (not all the time), when I get up right around 55mph and higher, there is suddenly a sort of like a rumbling or shaking of the car. It seems like the whole car is rumbling, the steering wheel is shaking too. Now, there used to be a loud resonating type of sound that was (i thought) associated with this shaking. So i took it in to the dealer. He said that the problem is a broken whell bearing. He fixed it, and the noise was gone. This shaking and rubling is still occurring now, however. Im not sure what it could be.....it feels almost like it could be one of the front wheels/tires. And like I said, it does not happen every time i get to 55, but more often than not. And when it happens, it seems to happen right at 55mph. Does anyone here know what the problem could be? Thanks.

The first thing I would do is have a good tire shop inspect the wheels and tires. Most basic tire shops will only balance a tire to the equivalence of 55 MPH and therefore will not guarantee anything beyond that speed. My 850 with the 16"s would need a balance every few months as the weights seemed to be eaten my some gremlin. I put on 17" Titans and have not had an issue since. So first, check the balance of the tires and wheels. Also, if a wheel is bent you will feel it too. So make it a point to have the shop verify the wheel's integrity.

Next, if the problem is there after the tire shop...check the ball-joints. I had to R&R mine at 164K miles. I now have 203K and no noise or vibration.

Finally, if everything else looks okay after this...then maybe a trans issue. You can almost eliminate this as a possibility when you feel the vibration again. If road conditions permit, get the car to vibrate and then remove your foot from the accelerator. Put the car into neutral. If the problem goes away when you shift into "N", then the issue goes deep. Take it to a good trans shop. (Oh, and you can put the car back into drive at speed, just keep off the gas till the trans is engaged.)

Good luck!
