If you may or may not already know, my S40 suffered transmission failure. You can read more about it here.
On my service writeup, the following part was replaced:
8667378-7 CONTROL CYLINDE
I'm wondering if this is the master/slave cylinder.

Re: What is a "control cylinder"? (MarvynDT)

Yep, that's the slave cylinder, located within the transmission/clutch housing. And if this isn't a warranty job, it should be because that is not a wear item. And it can cause the clutch to slip, stick, etc leading to failure.
Tom.

Re: What is a "control cylinder"? (tmtalpey)

The throwout bearing and slave cyclinder are one piece, as confirmed by both mcvolvo in my original post and the dealership I just called who told me that this needs to be replaced during any clutch job. I'm still running around in circles.
