A friend got HIDs in his car and keeps telling me I am missing out. I have never had them so I am not missing them but was wondering what everyone else is running for light configurations http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

If you have had issues with HID install what happened/were the fixable?

I am looking at one of these kits for lows and for fogs: http://www.carhidkits.com/volv...t-521/
My friend says this is the place he got his.

This thread basically convinced me that HIDs are a waste unless you actually replace the entire housing and lens unit to get HIDs. Just replacing the bulb is just asking for trouble...

Re: (StarmanDXE)

I'm now looking at the PIAA Xtreme White Plus (H11) Halogen Light Bulbs for lows and PIAA Plasma Ion Yellow (H1) Halogen Light Bulbs for fogs.

Don't think I want to go the HID route. I know people love them and stuff
...idk..think I'll prob try the PIAA replacement bulbs and see how they fair.

Thanks for the personal attack on my knowledge about cars
.

So I am a noob to performance tuning cars and especially Volvos...so what. EVERYONE on this forum has been a noob to tuning and Volvo cars at one point in, their life EVEN you Chilled Man. If you can't deal with me asking experienced tuners and Volvo enthusiasts on this forum about their opinions and knowledge on these cars then go pound sand...seriously.

If you check the thread I linked to above, you too will learn that there is a very good reason that it is illegal to retrofit cars with HID headlights. (Up until that thread, I had never done much research into it and hadn't realized why.)

ugh dumbasses I tell you .

anyhow did you see me spell your name ?

No I didnt .

Simple enough if you correctly aim your headlights you can use HIDs with out a single issue .

Now if you just drop HID bulbs in and go then you will have huge glare issues.

sorry for my 12+ years working on these cars and trying to help you yoyos

And no there isnt a good reason why there illegal is just stupid people dont know how to correclty aim there headlights thats the reason.

Or people who shouldnt touch a wrench and leave it to someone who knows what there actually doing .

there is two turning knobs on your headlgiths

one on top is left to right
one on the back of the headlight is up and down .

Then from XX feet you should mark up XX feet up the wall and aim that way.

Dont know the exact messurments off the top of my head.

But with the HIDs I dropped it down a few inchs to make sure there isnt any glare.

My favorite thing to laught at most on here are the ones who dont aim there headlights correclty then bitch about lights

Hmm... I think simply aiming them down as a fix is questionable... I'll have to look into the geometries of the reflectors more closely and see if that's really all that reasonable.

anybodys whos anybody can tell what cars came HID stock vs. a cheap "upgrade". and since i dont want to be in the same group as a ricer or some thug in a 92 buick with HIDs, ill steer clear. if you own a car that is 02 or newer my guess would be your next car will have them standard. if you put HIDs in halogen housings it looks cheap, fake, wannabeish.

between the glare, alignment, color temp (5000K-8000K), "bulb position failure", just not worth it.

oh and my ultras ive changed 4 times (2 in each) in a year, so dont think im saying that PIAA or Ultras are a better option.

just like im not going to put a wing on my car im not going to put in HIDs either, looks tacky.

if anyone knows a better halogen bulb that isnt BLUE but a clear white/blue let me know im open, but i love the look of the ultras. got that hint of blue that i like.

HERES A WINNER! http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=116874
