I have a 2004 s60r 6 speed but what does GT mean, and what makes the car a GT?

GT = Geartronic (the automatic in the Volvo's with manual option)

GT also means Wife Doesn't Drive Stick AND Wife Wears the Pants.

I tought my wife MT back in the highshool days knowing it would pay dividends down the road... she still wears the pants though

GT means...... I want to be faster than an MT.... so I bought the GT! Ever notice drag cars are automatics?????

Penguin if you had a 2006 GT... you would have a different opinion!

not because they are faster, but because in bracket racing, you need to be consistent, and automatics almost guarantee this.

True, drag cars are auto, in a sense, but very different from the GT we're talking about here, VERY different.

A GT with no torque limitting and even a higher stall converter would kick an MT's butt. But stock for stock from a standstill, even with the 6spd GT, I don't think that would be the case.

Then again, if both drivers are willing to abuse their cars it's anyone's race

...and it takes less skill/practive to succesfully abuse a GT to more wins consistantly, so the GT would be the winner, there I said it

Very true, but it sure sounded good in this debate......

but I am planning on having transmission work done with a 2500 stall converter so I can launch good for the quarter mile.......

Re: What does GT mean? (Elak R)

Quite honestly, the manual transmission is faster 0-60, but once up to speed does it really matter? I have the manual because it is more fun/involving. Not being able to heel and toe would annoy me to no end. If you are stuck in traffic all the time, well I would still have the manual but I can at least understand the need for the auto. But really guys, who cares about tenths of seconds from 0-60 times so long as the car is pretty damn quick overall? No one is really getting the advertised 5.4 to 60 in stock form from the manual. It's more like high 5's. That brings is pretty close to the auto's times all-in-all. If you bought this car to be a straight line rocket, well you should have saved some money and gotten a GTO, a Mustang or an Evo. Just enjoy the R and drive the hell outta it!

How would a GT s60r be faster than a MT s60r? Auto transmission V.S. Stick?

If the cars are similar, a MT driver would need to be much more accurate with the clutch than the GT driver who only has to nail the throttle.

is the MT and GT rated the same time 0-60 and quarter mile?
