Damn, That blows. Knocking on wood here. I did fronts but never did the rear and at ~170k they ride well still.
I did all 4 corners 3 years ago (shocks/struts and all mounts), the fronts are doing well with no issues other than having to replace the upper mounts last summer.

Made a 9 dollar mistake trying to come over the gas pump hose to pet the dog while filling the car. We were heading out to the eastern shore for the weekend. I ordered and it should be here Tuesday. I also read about the wire reinforcement trick and will do that with this new hinge before install. Gives me a chance to better clean that area too.

What's the wire reinforcement trick?

Also not doing a dang thing outside today, lol! On day 5 or 6 of 100+ degree heatwave today, and it's supposed to be the hottest out today. Doesn't let up and get back below 100 until this coming Friday! 😬🥵

Yeah - my son was out (flying back today) visiting my daughter. It looked pretty creepy with the weather forecasters on tv.
This is the fix apparently, using a new unit. A u-shaped wire with bends holding the hinge to the spring.

For me, I replaced the IAT sensor just because I felt like it.I always do things before needed just because I feel like it. For those that are going to replace this cheap $26 sensor, the single T10 torx screw that fastens it is really in a tight spot! Easy to see, not so easy to get a direct shot on it. 1/4 drive bit and 12" extension is your friend. The engineers even gave us a tiny curved slot on the rad support for access. Don't drop that screw! You may never find it😧

Used the S60T5M to transport ~400lbs of plywood. ~14 sheets of 3/8" 4x8, cut down of course.

Rear ended up being pretty slammed with the additional weight. The rear KW springs aren't really meant to handle this much weight in the rear I suspect.

Currently in the middle of a 4 task maintenance day since I finally never a free day here... Replacing both rear shocks and shock mounts, and end links, replacing both rear bump stops that disappeared a long while ago I had noticed... And hoping that swapping in a pair of brand new AWD hangers for the rear section of the mid pipe will fix the low hanging nature of the factory R exhaust I had put on my 2.5T FWD a few years ago.

Do far I've discovered that the rattling and clanking I've been hearing from the rear drivers side wasn't solely due to bad shocks, but rather when I peeled off the foam protective disc that sits a top the shock mount, the top nut came off with it! o_O That'll definitely cause some rattles and it seemed like it had been flattened slightly or something because I couldn't screw it back to the top of the shock and it looked oblong, very strange. Also one of the mounting bolts to the shock mount is larger than the other 2 (13mm vs the other 2 being 12mm) which I thought is odd... But also that larger one must have been cross thread I could tell from when I replaced the mounts a few years ago, and fortunately I had a couple spare exact size bolts to swap in place. The replacement Meyle mounts I'm using unfortunately don't come with their own mounting bolts.

Keep an eye/ear on those rear shock mounts over time after replacing them. Any weird sounds from the rear should be looked at immediately! I let a 'clunk' go on for a week and instead of replacing a strut mount (an hour fix), I had to deal with the entire area cracking and breaking off (multiple day affair having to replace everything and welding up the trunk metal). Probably won't happen to you since I'm pretty sure the culprit in my case was a dying rear 4C shock, but can't be too careful with these things! My rear anchorage shattered which cracked the surrounding bits of sheet metal in the trunk. Ironically the top strut mount rubber didn't fail.

As a BMW E46 guy, I've seen plenty of those, but never on a P2!

I will definitely keep that in mind and an eye/ears on it. I remember your post about that in your build thread and was like :eek:o_O That could technically happen to anyone. I'd honestly think it to happen to fronts first, but rears tend to be thinner gauge metal since it's not supporting engine weight. My only concern was the unbolted shock rattling around in the mount and I'm sure it probably came completely out once or twice looking at its threads. It was through the mount top though like it should be when I uncovered the mount and shock top and the mount hole area looks pristine. With the new mounts and shocks installed, the rear feels super tight now and zero noise!

That wasn't too bad, worse part was when I removed the RF bolt with an impact, it had a bunch of oil (I'm guessing from when the cam seal blew) which flung all over everything including me.

I also remember there was a reason why the LR bushing has the oblong sleeve, and goes in one way, while the Delrins were all identically round. I'm hoping this isn't something I'll care about ever.

replaced the front control arms (thus completing the replacement of all FS components), and got an alignment.

A special award goes to my newest tool addition - the bump cap! Really, really, REALLY nice for working under a car on a lift. Well worth the $15 I paid for it.

Looks like my front brakes on the R Brembo'ss were a little bit low...oops.

First time changing these pads since the Brembo swap - amazed how quick the change is. Finished both sides in 30 minutes including setup, cleanup, with light rain falling.

Got her ready for another winter. Clay bar. Compound with Yellow Hex pad and CG V32 to get out all the deep marks. Another compound to refine; Orange Hex pad and Meguires Ultimate, Polish with White Hex Pad and Meguires Ultimate Polish and 2 coats of CG Hydroslick. Sooooooo slippery. ;)
