I replaced my leather shift boot with one I bought off eBay. The only one I found in the US was brown, so I bought a small bottle of black leather dye off Amazon and re-dyed it black. I touched up my black leather shift knob while I was at it.

Mounted the iPD catback exhaust I got last week. Install was easy. The clamps that came with are meh. All of the joints leak. Tomorrow I'll find a shop to weld it all up. It sounds so freaking good. No drone, deep when I lay on the gas, mellow when cruising. So far I'm super happy with it. We'll see what the wife thinks when I pick her up from work later...

It seems like it'll start to drone more as you put miles on it. At least that's what it's felt like on my '04 XC. Update in a month or so how you feel - even with sound deadening in the trunk, I'm considering adding a resonator.

Well now I really want to know if it will so I made a calendar notification for 60 days from today. No promises that I'll post anything though, I'm terrible about getting around to that stuff.

I rewired the 7 pin European trailer wiring to a 7 blade US head. I traced the wires from 7 pin to 7 blade through an adapter, then soldered the corresponding 4 pins on the 7 blade and as well as 4 pins on a 4 pin end (so I can have both 7 blade and 4 pin always available without an adapter in the car) to the original 4 wires used for ground, tail lights, L/R indicator. Then ran a wire from battery positive to a 40A breaker and into the charging wire on the 7 blade, and two wires together all the way from back to front. These served as the power wire directly off the positive of the battery for a brake controller, and a wire for the brake controller output to the electric brake wire on the 7 blade. I used a Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty which has a pretty nice flush mounted button instead of the entire controller needing to mount under the steering wheel. It also turns off when it doesn't sense a trailer, so the LEDs on the button are off when there's no trailer, which is nice. I had to throw in a couple grounds and a 30A breaker between the controller power and battery and I was done. The controller mounting under the dash and the switch were the hardest parts--I started to regret wiring one in instead of using a Bluetooth controller, but I'm glad I went this route now that it's done.

We bought a pop-up camper, and it came with electric brakes, so I wanted to be able to use them! It weighs 1400lbs dry, and we've planned a ~1700mi round-trip this August where we will be camping, so I'll be glad to have the extra safety and control with a fully loaded camper/car, my wife and 2 kids. Nivomats were recently installed which should help, and I plan to install a trans cooler before the trip as well. I'll also be on the lookout for a larger rear sway bar. We've done two trips at about that length before and had no troubles, but never with a trailer in haul! 244k miles on the XC so far, trans is original as far as I know. Wish us luck!

What changes in it to start making it drone?

No idea, but mine started at an acceptable volume around 2500-3k rpm, but is now pretty loud at those revs. Still sounds great, just droney. I think it may have something to do with the muffler material breaking in - the Simons exhaust I had on my old Amazon project was unbearable when first installed, but after some miles and heat cycles it became much quieter.

Depends how loud you are used to. I drove a P2 T5M with an IPD exhaust back to back with a 99 V70 T5A with a Borla muffler and that made the IPD exhaust sound quiet. The Borla was so loud that the kids on the sidewalk were staring at the Volvo.

Angle gear is repaired.

$250 for a replacement from a wrecker.

Another $250 for a new collar gear and seals from Volvo.

$500 in labor.

Had to press out the yoke from the original in to the new one. Resealed and refilled obviously. Apparently there's different ones even though the one I got from the wrecker was from the same year car.

I picked up a PEM harness off a ‘07 S60 and the PNP a few days ago, so I relocated my PEM from underneath my XC to spare tire well. No issues at all. I paid $4 for mine and it looked new being inside the car its whole life. Saved like 80 bucks. I also finally mounted my 12v outlet in the rear right side panel. It’s been sitting behind the right side panel door waiting for me to get motivated. 😬

Not bad. I found that Angelus flat black leather paint matches OEM finish pretty well.

Car is driving well. Got it washed today as a little treat.

I think I'm going to have to replace the rest of the ignition coils though. I fixed that misfire I was having by replacing the one, but the car is still idling rough and it's getting progressively rougher. Especially when warm.

I'm surprised I only got 3 years out of those delphi coils. I thought they were a quality brand. Seems weird that simply removing them and placing them on the new engine would damage them.

Anyway...onward to 300k miles

After changing the fuel filter on my V70 which took all of 15 minutes and feeling rather smug about it I told my mate to bring his S60 T5 over and I would change his filter in jig time. Car up on the ramp and everything went wrong from then on. The bolt for the filter bracket was overtightened and rusty to the point the 10mm six sided socket wouldn't grip, I hammered on a 3/8" multi-point socket and it wouldn't grip either so it was out with the air grinder and chop the head off the bolt, then the chisel to remove the flared head from the bolt, then the chisel again to get the remainder of the ragged edges off before the bracket could be removed. Vise grips eventually removed what was left of the bolt and new filter fitted.

Next was his spark plugs, I expected them to squeal in a similar fashion to what mine did the day before, but no, they were just over finger tight and almost fell out, except for number three which had obviously been tightened by a feather duster, it was so loose that the soot from the combustion had blown past the spark plug and covered the entire 'spark plug tube' with soot. All back together now and torqued down to the recommended 25Nm and my mate says the car is now a rocket ship, can I give him some money for petrol?...

Megs is good stuff for the money, especially considering it's a "store brand."
Went to put my new black mat in the load area and discovered that a P2 with nav uses a different mat. The side piece sticks out more to accommodate the DVD player.

I have the same mat...not the black one, the tan one you have underneath. Car had matching floor mats too but I ditched them for the volvo rubber mats. I've considered getting rid of it from time to time. Makes it annoying to use the flip up package tray in the back. And if you keep stuff back there on top of the mat, it will slide back little by little until it messes with the tail gate closing.

What did you find out?
Looked again, this time more thoroughly, and oil's halfway between min and max. Coolant is also at min. No mixing of coolant and oil at all, glove test good, haven't seen the puff of smoke or condensation (whatever it was) since, but also haven't been paying attention to it. No leaks anywhere, through seals or onto the ground. Oil filler opening is pristine, and power seems normal.
Slightly worried, but should I be? Have to fill up the coolant and put some oil in until I service it in a couple weeks when it gets warmer out.

Ah, the old saying - the couple that finds antique mechanical horns together...

And omg so satisfying. Wife had an old one she wanted to have working so I nabbed an Ooma Telo(~$20-30 on Fleabay and you just pay 911 fees per month, service is free) and a pulse to tone converter (which lets you dial out w/rotary pulses as most voip hardware only supports DTMF) there are Chineseum converters but I've had better luck with the Dialgizmo. I'm like this close to just making my own circuit at this point.

How about a game of I-Spy?

and I just replaced the t-stat in my wagon. Maybe not necessarily, but I found it easier to replace after unbolting the power steering pump.
