Needs a bracket that holds the two 40 splits. I believe the middle can be removed to add an accessory.

The one I found only had the normal 60/40 bracket, the 20 is part of the 60

I see your point now, the rear lower seat cushions need the central holder bracket. Maybe not too difficult or maybe not worth it. Merp. I suppose I could just use the seat backs and then find another off black xc lower rear that's 60, as the 40 side fits just fine and the upright backs will fit just fine

It needs welding … is all I know. Though it was too much for 1-2 time per year where it’d be nice to have a fridge in the middle … (still have the fridge tho). May ‘gizmo’ it in the trunk.

Front main seal on. Pesky due to the shoulder on the crank snout. Sized the seal land with an adjustable wrench and transferred measurement to an old style transmission funnel and cut it (just slightly larger than the seal ID). Cleaned and deburred carefully, put over the splined and threaded portions to protect and expand the seal. Then used assembly grease on this "new tool" to slide the seal up onto the crank, avoiding the step (sharp edge) on the seal land area.

So.......I think I'm gonna try and bolt that bracket in with some locktite. No reason it can't work, bracket from old car will mark where to drill and tap in new car, and safety won't be affected bc seat belts are bolted elsewhere. Will update with results later that way I can go back to regular seats if I want, can just like rubber undercoat the back of the holes and bolts

Yet another R followed me home, I wasn’t planing on buying this but I ultimately couldn’t help myself. I was tipped off to it by someone who found it at an estate auction not too far from me, he called to ask me some questions about the R platform and decided it wasn’t the car for him, but told me to give the seller a call, I did figuring I’d just get some info on it, but my mouth quickly regurgitated a cash offer and now here we are. 05 M66 almost 270k but it’s in impressively good shape.

Props to you if you know the other cool thing about this photo IYKYK

Angle gear seems to have failed internally. 266k miles. Loud pop going through a turn followed by a clunking sound whenever turning the wheels off center. Also intermittent grinding noise. Suppose it could be the collar as well but when the one in my R failed it was totally quiet except for the initial bang. Guess we'll find out.

What will become of the black slicktop T5?
That’s my dads car, that thing has gone through a bunch of work, it’s currently on Kw V1s, brembos, delrins, powerflex, sway bars, exhaust and a bunch more, that car is amazing to drive.

Regional evacuation siren attached to a former grocery store for a nearby nuclear power plant?
Yep, Federal Signal Thunderbolt 1000! On an old fire station in MA, my gf and I talked to the chief and allegedly it still works but hasn’t been actively used for a long time. Gave them my contact info so if they get rid of it I could buy it for a restoration project.

Also totally meant to put that post in the R forum lol

Low key the warning siren thing is like the kitschiest and nerdiest hobby I can imagine and I love it so much just as a concept. And I say that as someone in my 30s who recently restored multiple rotary phones

Did the KW's improve ride quality (e.g. on our crappy New England roads)?
Overall I’d say yes, the fact that the damping is adjustable is amazing, they feel super smooth on the highway and makes the car feel extremely planted, they take bumps very well, it’s stiff but not jarring. My dad and I both like them. I think the part that makes it more stiff is the front IPD sway bar, might just go back to the stock one whenever that car inevitably gets a SMF and R clutch. Imo the FWD P2 feels more balanced with just a bigger rear sway bar as I have on my 05 T5M

I think the more surprising part is that my girlfriend introduced them to me, it’s fun to pull up the map wherever we are and go find an old siren, I just love the fully mechanical aspect of these sirens and how some of them are dual tone like car horns etc. Particularly like the thunderbolts and the Mobil directo/Allertor 125, which looks like a toilet turned sideways. Wow I need a rotary phone now, they’re so satisfying to use

Ah, the old saying - the couple that finds antique mechanical horns together...

And omg so satisfying. Wife had an old one she wanted to have working so I nabbed an Ooma Telo(~$20-30 on Fleabay and you just pay 911 fees per month, service is free) and a pulse to tone converter (which lets you dial out w/rotary pulses as most voip hardware only supports DTMF) there are Chineseum converters but I've had better luck with the Dialgizmo. I'm like this close to just making my own circuit at this point.

...now that I'm thoroughly off topic, back to wagons! Ordering a thermostat and control arms and TPMS sensors today for the next step in the hold my beer OEM+ R story

That’s because it is. Increasing the rear bar spring rate makes a fwd car more neutral, increasing the front bar makes it understeer more.

Replaced front wheel hub. I hate having to do a job like this when you are not mentally prepared for facing ANY complications. I had zero patience for anything going wrong. I decided to remove the control arm from spindle to get stability of spindle AND good access to bolts. That turned out to be a great idea but putting control arm stud back in was not that much fun. Would have been fine if it was nice and warm out and I wasnt trying to do this over lunch. Anyhow got er done.

Slow day at work so I put the V70 up on the 4 post and pulled the wheels for a rebalance. They were all off about 50 oz. Two wheels had no weights on them.
But since it never ends I noticed that I had some small holes in the CV boots and one in the ball joint boot plus the lower control are bushing wasn't looking to hot.. I swear the hole on the boot looks like teeth marks.

Went outside this am and discovered drips under the front cross member. Couldn’t see anything from the top and $itty hip stopped me from crawling under! Snow storm tomorrow so, no go either.

Return hose is quite wet at the tank connecting as well. Have the parts to replace the hose and the tank (new design). What are the chances it’s a r&p vs. hp hose?

I think rust has done what it’s designed to do after 19 years on salty roads.
What’s the brand we trust for replacement? Please consider that any US supplier (except rock auto) is a shipping equivalent of a blue whale (cost and border fees).

The rack, should I need one, is Bosch (new or referb) as well as Cardone.

Update: it was a motor mount! Phew …
