There are plenty of ways to learn. Generally, the suggested way is to sign up for classes at a local trade school (Lincoln Tech, for example). The cost of the course generally is less than the cost of the materials provided, plus you get to work on your own 'projects' in the classes (exhaust, manifolds, etc).
I'd also be willing to show you a few things
