LOVE that colour. I'm curious - what was the mounting of the bar onto the bumper like? I had one for my old V50, and it was wobbly because it didn't have a way to mount to anything but the existing/flimsy factory plate rack holes. I put expander bolts in to make it more stable but even then it was only going into the factory foam back piece.
Oh, things went bad on this one.....

I tried bumper cover only, definitely bounced.
I later added bolts all the way through the crash bar. Better, but still not the most solid since there's that foam that you can't truly tighten against.

RIP Bronze volvo

That's an expensive solution for a bar mount ;-)

At the time when my 2010 T6 was manufactured - when both Volvo and Land Rover were owned by Ford - parts bin rationalization was the name of the game and it resulted in the XC60 being kitted out with the Freelander diff. So my XC60 was afflicted with the same weak diff bearings as the early Freelanders, and for some time I have had a very noisy diff hum.

I finally bit the bullet and had it repaired - by a transmission specialist who basically only does Land Rovers, but who had fixed quite a few diffs on early model XC60s as well.

The upside - besides mitigating the risk of getting stuck with a broken diff and a seriously expensive repair - is that the car is QUIET again. I have forgotten how quiet the T6 actually is!

That is good to know. Crossing fingers that never comes up for me. Would you care to share what the $ for a job like that is? I had a crazy hum on mine that made me think it was the differential or maybe bearings (less likely bearings as noise did not change when I turned) BUT turned out it was the Pirellis the previous owner had on the car. CRAZY loud and hard to justify telling people the noise is from the winter tires. I put a different set of used winter tires (with now dedicated alloys) and it is very quiet. SO much better.

Cost of the 2 bearings and labour (including removal and refitting the diff) was around $1200 - 1300 (in South Africa). In my case it definitely was not a wheel bearing (tested that possibility thoroughly) and it wasn't tires either (also exhausted that possibility). I had 2 independent assessments confirming it was the diff - and as mentioned in my original post, the noise has now gone after the diff bearing replacement.

Beautiful ride and great mods. Asking price?
This past weekend I replaced the fan control module with a $30 replacement from Amazon. Solved the issue instantly and no disconnecting battery! Took 2 days to arrive and had to disconnect battery about 8 times during that span. A stubby screwdriver is your friend when it comes to removing the screw holding the module in place.

Haha I had to do the same with the 2010 xc60 I had previously. a donor fan module solved the issue you had. I am asking $16,500.00

Needed to get out and away from people, went looking for a forest road to explore.

Car drives great as is, but a few more inches of clearance and some chunkier tires and I would have kept climbing, decided to play if safe and not get stuck on a Sunday evening

My Volvo guy said be glad I didn't have a 3.2, would've been twice the cost.
He did the pinion seal too, while he had everything down.

Bit of spring cleaning today. Quick vacuum, scrubbed the rubber floor mats with a drill brush, and then replaced the rear wiper and rear hatch struts.

Had the front driver/passenger windows tinted using Rayno Phantom, I should be at 35 now, which is what is legal in NC. In May I'll get the other windows done with a UV film. Not sure about the windshield as it's heated.

Changed transmission fluid today.. Drain and fill by a tranny shop.

Original fluid was quite dirty but thankfully not 'burnt'. Don't buy into the lifetime fluid nonsense from the dealerships.

Moving is finally done, have to rock the Thule rack and box until I can get it stored in the new garage.
Little noisy but keeps the interior cool in the sun :)
