Re: What color to paint mf CF gauge pod? (CM2RAS)

Honestly, I would have ordered the FRP if you were going to paint it.
I bought a flat black interior paint made by Duplicolor, I found it at Autozone, and it matched good.

Maybe its the FRP from Carbon Fiber Works? Either way, if it's CF, dont paint it, sell it in the classifieds and buy a FRP one (my $.02). If it's FRP, I would look at shades of charcoal, perhaps, and not necessarily black. Black may be too dark. Others have painted interior trim bits, so hopefully they will chime in, but ultimately, you can test a couple of colors on a junk piece of plastic, and see how it looks when help against the dash.

If it's CF I too would probably not paint it. If you decide to sell it, or still want to paint it, a charcoal might be better.
Here is what I used for touch ups on the charcoal center console:

Here is the color match test. Left is charcoal, middle stock, right is the black Duplicolor bumper paint.

As you can see the finish is a little glossier than stock. BUT it is almost a direct match with the stock console part behind the test piece. Our cars have the obvious variations in color (gray, tan, and black) as well as different finishes (flat, satin, and semi-gloss). It's a pain to match so please test spray.

A bit off topic to paint color, but still related to the gauge pod.
Does the location interfere with the defrost on the drivers side window? Considering a boost gauge and it seems like the CF pod would totally block air flow to the window which could cause more fogging up in winter.
Appreciate the perspective.
BW

You could opt for the IPD pod that mounts further up on the dash toward the windshield. Noting for it to interfere with there.

Leave it alone, it looks great as-is even though there's no other CF in the interior.

In real life and real light it does not stand out and look out of place.
As for the defroster, who knows. I sold the R a month after the install but those side defrosters don't work all that well anyway!

Get it professionally painted to match as close to stock as possible.
Tip: Get both sides painted, both the new pod and the passenger door sail to avoid any discrepancies in color.
I havent installed mine yet, but Im rolling with both stock door sails painted and they look stock. I got them done professionally, with the pod, for $20.

Then by all means, select one of the duplicolor colors displayed above. I think one of those should do nicely.

Maybe I should pop it off and have an auto body paint shop color match it for me.

Uhhhh with the mentioning of Guerneville (pronounced groin-ville) this thread has officially turned gay.
Back on topic: I would paint the other side as well so the colors match.
