It is really funny that you posted this, because I saw an orange/red 850 Turbo sedan last week. I have never seen this color before, and IMHO it looks very unique in real life, not really great though. In 1994, they had this color called 'Rubin Red Pearl Metallic'.

No you're right - it's a turd.
Volvo are not immune from providing some appalling colours - my least favourite is apparently very popular over where you are; the Saffron Gold Metallic which looks like a goldplated turd.

And of course don't even go to the colours on 1970s 400 series...

That's an 850, I think, while the saffron color was not available until the 70 series. In 1995 for a very limited run the 850 was available in a sort of metallic bronze/orange called either harvest gold metallic or maybe autumn gold metallic. In person it was quite striking - to my eyes anyway (each to his own taste). I didn't think it was available in the T5, just the base and GLT trim, but I could be wrong.

Yes, the 1995 850 T-5R came in pale yellow (called T-gul). It's one of the most desirable car/color combinations because it's extremely rare and some people really like the color.

Here's a yellow T-5R that was a feature car at Swedespeed:
