I'm taking my 2006 Volvo S40 (USA) in for a software update to enable my remote to roll down the windows. Are there any other features I should ask for to be enabled?

Well, you can have your DRL's disabled. Also, they should do it anyway, but make sure they check their software updates for engine, trans., A/C, etc.

Why on earth would you disable DRL's?
Al

I hated my DRL's. If I wanted my lights on all the time I can put them in the "on" position and have the same functionality as before.
I also didn't want them cycling on and off every time I started the car.

Re:

It's not even the DRL, it's the main headlights. Yes, it is like driving with your headlights on all the time. If it was just the inner city lights then I wouldn't have a problem.
Yeah, the DRL's are absolutely like driving with the headlights on all the time. That's the point. Just an FYI guys, but it's a SAFETY ITEM.
Remember, headlights are there not only so you can see at night, but so you can "see, and BE SEEN".
That's one thing that drives me nuts about driving in the US, is all the cars without DRL's. I can't imagine actually asking the dealer to turn them off. Plain silly.
Al

Canada has had DRL's since 1991, right around the time I got my driver's license. Just a part of life for us up here.
Al

Personally I'd rather have DRL's as something other than the xenons, especially if you're making short trips. It's hard on them and shortens the life. I'm a fan of DRL's just think they could have used the fogs or something on xenon equipped vehicles.

I agree with you TFS. The other thing is that when you start the car they kind of come on twice. When you first turn the key before ignition they come on, then as you turn further to start they turn off and the come on again....that probably puts some undue stress on the headlamps (xenons)

Re: What are all the possible features that can be software updated on the s40? (skwirl)

-You can have the remote/windows done.
-You can have the temp for your heated seats turned up/down
-You can remove the speed limiter. (Some of the techs at my dealership told me about it....apparently the dealership won't let them download the software, but it is available!?)
- You can have the DRLs disabled

In response to the people that like the DRLs on, fine. But here is my reasoning. I prefer both more interaction with the car, as well as more choice. A great example would be sitting in a friend's driveway, I would like to be able to turn off the lights so they are not flooding his house at midnight. I realize I could use the parking lights, but hey. I liked how on my 99 V70 it was a flat head screw that you could rotate.
I always turn on my lights when I drive, in fact I often leave them on since it won't drain the battery. I am getting mine disabled at 7,500 mile service.
In fact, I wish I could have most all of the options on my car, but with roll down windows, and manual mirrors as well. Also against Navi. I think it takes away from the driving experience, and road knowledge. Call me weird.

Ask your service writer for the list. We were getting the "barking dogs" fixed on mine after it arrived on the OSD Boat. I asked him about the all windows down mod. He showed me several pages of possible mods, things like disable auto reverse display on climate, and such. All the defaults were what I wanted. They did the all down and said they saw an all windows up mod but it didn't work. Bummer! that would have been nice. Your service person SHOULD know the options available to set.

Are you sure something is actually wrong??
