I have a 2005 S40 and my carpets are soaking wet. This is my store.
Before going to the car wash this weekend I wanted to remove my rubber floor mats. When I pulled them out I noticed the carpet was soaking wet. I removed the seat and pulled the carpet out to let it dry. I could not figure out where the water was coming from. Today it started to rain and I thought I would try to find the leak. I removed a couple of plastic trim and noticed that water was coming out from the area near bottom right corner of the front windshield. I could not get to the area of the windshield to much stuff need to be removed. If anyone can help me narrow the problem of the leak down, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks David.
If your rear carperts are wet, it could be that the A/C connection under the driver/passenger seat has come undone this is a very common problem but eaisly fixed you just need to reconnect, however if your front carperts are wet cause of a leak it's a different story.

Re: Wet Carpet (Volvo S 40)

Thats one cause for a water leak which ive seen a few times but not super common. Id pull you a-pillar panels and verify your sun roof drains arent clogged. Get a air hose and nossle and blow out the lines from the top of the sun roof out the bottom drains.
Also volvo uses a weird rubber 90* drain that pops into the side of the car and is supposed to drain water out the side of the fender. However they have a design flaw and get clogged. I wish i had a picture to show you what i mean. Basically we pull those off see if they are packed with dirt and then cut them back a bit to allow water and debris to pass thru.

Re: Wet Carpet (ForceFed Motorsports)

After taking half the car apart and thinking my welds broke, I think I got it. As it turns out the sunroof drain was clogged. There is a small seep hole at both of the corners of the sunroof. One of mine was clogged. All I need to do was stick a small plastic tube about 4 inches and push the dirt out.

Thanks a lot for the help.

I was also thinking about using my air compressor and try to blow some compressed air thru the drain holes. what do you think about it.

Grab the top of the a-pillar covers and pull them loose. You'll have a clip that connects the cover to the actual a pillar itself that you will have to slide off with a screw driver. Once thats removed you'll see the drain hose run down into the dash into a rubber 90*. Thats what gets clogged a lot of times which lets water spill over under the dash on onto the carpet in the passenger compartment.

Re: (kpsingh0)

The elbow that clogs is called the sound trap. Its supposed to let water drain out of the car and out the bottom drains quietly i guess lol. Its worth looking at since if its faulty its supposed to be replaced. Its a pain to get to since its deep into the dash but just sticking an air nozzle in it and blasting out the junk seems to fix a lot of them.

Re: (SkagSig40)

The seal isnt perfect, it doesnt keep all water out even when closed. Thus why the water catch and drains are necessary. When these plug the water has no where else to go but inside your car.
Water leaks arent usually warrantable unless they are caused by a failed component. If the drains are clogged they will charge you with diag. and some shop time.
