That's sure to have excellent and lasting results. For a permanent fix, use a fiberglass mend kit like one from Bondo. Cut several pieces of fiberglass to fit the broken area, soak in resin and layer on the back-side (facing roof). When it hardens, you will have a solid permanent repair. If the exposed side of the panel is damaged, you can put a thin layer of fiberglass on this side as well, but you will have to sand and smooth before applying the liner, as any variance will telegraph through the liner.
