So im driving home from work today at 3pm and its one of the first really nice days. all 4 windows are down nice cool breeze while im cruising at 90 down the highway. well to make a long story short the orange poop behind the headliner got in my eyes. a couple rips in the head liner, and now the breeze ate it all up. so i took all of it off the sunroof. im planning on redoing it this weekend. and suggestions/ advice.

Punkerton:

If you intend to do the headliner yourself, you need to know that Volvo used a special 1/8" thick headliner material, not the 1/4" stuff most automakers use. You can get the 1/8" on ebay and through IPD. I've heard some people say that you can use the 1/4" stuff IF you do not have a sunroof, but if you have a sunroof, you must get hold of the 1/8" material. If you use the 1/4" stuff with a sunroof, it's too thick, and the sunroof can't operate properly.

Also, if you have a sunroof, be aware that IPD's instructions don't cover the sunroof headliner, only the main headliner. The site George linked you to does have info on the sunroof.

Good luck-

DIY Network says to repair the broken shell with "Duct Tape"???? Good gawd Gerty!

That's sure to have excellent and lasting results. For a permanent fix, use a fiberglass mend kit like one from Bondo. Cut several pieces of fiberglass to fit the broken area, soak in resin and layer on the back-side (facing roof). When it hardens, you will have a solid permanent repair. If the exposed side of the panel is damaged, you can put a thin layer of fiberglass on this side as well, but you will have to sand and smooth before applying the liner, as any variance will telegraph through the liner.

Duct tape…
