I know there are alot of new folks here lately. I want to extend a warm welcome. I was new to this forum 7 months ago and I know what it is like to be new! How about if you "Newbie's" share with us how you heard of this site. And what exactly motivated you to the R. I know alot of the veterans here can be quite frank (to say it lightly) but they are very helpfull in most every situation. So if you have any questions that you were hesitant to ask because of the "frankness" of some of the members, don't be! I hope you all have as much fun learning about these quirky cars as I have on a daily basis. So let the orientation begin!

Re: Welcome to the Newbie's here at the R forum.................................. (Mash)

Ok, I will start. I heard about this forum from Mash. We live in Minnesota, about 30 miles from one another. I loved BMW's for many years. Then I met Rick (Mash) at a gas station in my neighborhood. I saw a really hot "I don't know what the @%$% that car is" at this station and approached the owner. I asked him what kind of car it was?. He replied " a Volvo, can you believe it"? I said NO WAY! That is the hottest looking 4 door I have seen in a long time. And the rest is history. Within the next week I had my new to me R. I have watched Mash closely with all of his mods. And I must say it is a very bad habit for Mash (if you can call it that ). I now know what it is like to have performance and luxury all in one. The BMW's I have owned pretty much had the performance but lacked much in the creature comforts of a luxury product. ( I had a few of the M products from BMW) Now that Mash and I see each other on a monthly basis at the least I am hooked on Volvo's! The R is not a perfect car for everyone. But this is the car for me. No complaints at all! The look is unique, the power is above average and the exclusivity here in Minnesota is 2nd to none. I have only seen 4 other R's on the road in the last 5 months that I have been looking for them. So there is my story in short. If anyone is hesitant to ask a question here because it might have been asked before. PLEASE im myself or Mash for help. I think that Our_R, Jmn, myself and Mash are a great example of Minnesota nice! I hope you all have a great weekend and I look forward to the rest of our SS experiences together, Jim.

absolutley kundert volvo in hasbrouck heights. i made a huge mistake and did not buy my car from them only because i didnt know about them. Tell ur friend to ask for nikki. these guys are enthusiasts and will spend al the time in the world with you. they also have relationships with all of the aftermarket companies and have both evolve and heico display cars in their showroom. they are experts installing aftermarket products as well. good luck!!!

Re: Welcome to the Newbie's here at the R forum.................................. (Mash)

Mash thanks for the welcome. I recently traded my 2004 S60 2.5T for a 2006 S60R and I love it! In the two years I've been a Volvo owner, I've been impressed with Volvo. Contrary to some of the experiences shared by others on this forum, I've been quite pleased with the level of service I've received at both Volvo of Orange County and Volvo of Irvine in California. Nonetheless, I sympathize with those who've been treated less than superbly--dealing with sub-professionals is more than a nuisance--it sucks!
I moved over to the R because I wanted a new Volvo with more power and with a better sound system (in addition to the myriad enhancements the R offers over the 2.5T and the T5). This car has style, beauty, performance, sensibility, many safety features and it sleeps! I think the Electric Silver is one of the sleepier colors because the badging melts into the body unless the eye is really discerning.
Due to my interest in modding the car, I've read many of the posts regarding performance upgrades. I'm intrigued by the BSR PPC Stage 1--the Stage 3 pretty much would commit me to buying the car (I'm leasing), so I don't know if I would do it at this point. Because I live in Southern California I elected to go with the GT. I want to educate myself thoroughly concerning the pros and cons of going with the Stage 1 and perhaps the Stage 3. Another factor is California fuel which is generally limited to 91 octane unless mixing with race gas (which I don't want to do). Also I certainly don't want to be incurring unforseen costs due to potentially excessive demands placed on the engine due to these upgrades (I'm particularly concerned about the transmission--I've already met Mr. Shift Flare and I don't like him). Nontheless, if I can be confident that I can upgrade my R sensibly without too much risk of breaking something big or incurring a off-warranty repair I'll most likely do it.
I really enjoy this forum and find it to be informative, intelligent and entertaining.
