My wastegate has recently started to make a strange sound when ever I change gears. The sound almost reminds me of the whip of air sound intakes make on the volvos, any thoughts?

If it is making a fluttering sound, you most likely have an issue

"Whip" noise is normal, but like GiRaff said, fluttering is a bad sound.

CBV rip or tear can cause a fluttering sound, unfortunately.

I've noticed much louder wastegate air noise after having my clutch and slave cylinder replaced. Why is that?

I complained to the mechanic about excess engine noise in the cabin after the work was done and he found the grommet was not in correctly and fixed it. But the blow-off air noise is louder outside the car also. I could never hear it with the windows down but it is very noticeable now. On the bright side, the turbo lag in hot weather seems to be gone and I don't notice the same laboring with the AC on. Maybe they did a tweak for me somehow without mentioning it? I also had the TCV lines replaced a few months ago.

They couldnt figure out why the blow-off noise was happening so they are replacing the turbo under warranty to see if that is the culprit, and the idiots didnt change my old slave cylinder and it ended up failing and messing up a brand new clutch and flywheel.
