Warranty.......

So, I've got an '06 S40. What's the mileage where the warranty ends? is it 60K or 50K? Just curious as I'm at 45K. And what's the deal with the extended warranties? Worth getting?

Call the dealer, and you can answer 2 out of 3 of those questions.

You have to decide on your own whether or not extended warranty is worth it, but I say yes. I negotiated it into the price I paid on my car, and it's nice to know that for 2 more years I have warranty.
Re: Warranty....... (AutoFahren)

It's in your owner's manual, or online at volvocars.com/us. Go to Owner's info, then Your Volvo->Search the library, you'll find the warranty.

Or... https://www.customers.volvocar....html

You'll have to decide on the extended warranty yourself. There are many types, coverages, and year/mileage maximums. Prices are negotiable, and important.

Re: Warranty....... (tmtalpey)

I thought about the extended warranty, and I'm not sure if it's worth it. With my luck the car will explode after 50K.

Thank you guys for your help...I called the dealer, and as the second owner of the car, buying it with the factory warranty still under effect, it was more of when 50K was up rather than four years. Or something like that, I could have misunderstood what he was saying.

I dont think they will (haven't asked yet), but do you think a dealer would do a once over the car under warranty, before the warranty is up?
Re: Warranty....... (AutoFahren)

The warranty ends when the car reaches the mileage *or* the years from the in-service date. Did the dealer give you that info? If not, it's trivial for them to look it up.

As for the once-over, sure if you pay them for the time I'm sure they'll do it. But if you're looking for preventative maintenance, that isn't going to be warranteed.

And an extended warranty is much cheaper upfront versus later on with the surcharges and inspection fees added.
Having the certified extended warranty was the reason I bought my 05 V50. That being said, I am bummed to read in the fine print that during the warranty period, I have to have it serviced by a dealership to retain warranty...

I wanted to change my own oil! Especially since they recommend 7500 mile intervals...I think 5K is more appropriate.

Yes CPO is definitely the weapon of choice. Covers pretty much anything and is very easy to work with as it acts pretty much like the factory warranty. It can be very pricey though up front which may require some negotiating on your part.

The factory warranty is 4 years 50,000 miles whichever comes first. Thats the in service date as well not the year of the car which would be important to check on at your dealer.

The car can only be Certified pre-owned if you are still under factory warranty so act fast http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

Not quite. The car can only be CPO when a dealer is reselling it. You are referring to the VIP warranty......and it will be pricey due to the surcharges.

Re: (MagoonR)

Nope sorry, not trying to be rude but just talked to the service writer and says he can Certify any customer vehicle as long as its still covered under factory warranty. You pay for the inspection to verify the vehicle is in good shape prior to buying the warranty. Thus any item noted on the inspection form must be done prior to being able to certify. For example brake pads must be at 35% or above or basically pass the inspection.

Thanks guys. I'll give some more careful thought....before I do anything crazy...

I was in my dealership over the weekend. I have 3yrs and 30,450 miles on my car now. I was quoted a extended warranty for 7yrs 75,000 miles for 1600 with $100 deductible. He also mentioned that once you hit 31,000 miles the price goes up between 800-1200 depending on the plan.

VIP warranty surcharges typically kick in at 15mo/15K miles and more severely at 30mo/30K miles. And yes, the 30/30 is a big surcharge.

If I am an original owner, Certified Pre-Owned doesn''t make sense.......does it?

Re: (MagoonR)

I know it doesnt sound right but on the warranty sheet that we see "CPO eligible" meaning it can either be ready for certification or already has been. VIP warranty is extending the CPO. Certified coverage just means that the vehicle has been certified by a dealer for the warranty coverage.

Just talked to another technician that told me the same thing, if you dont believe me thats fine not here to argue. I just suggest talking to your dealer because anyone including original owner of the vehicle can get CPO coverage as long as they are under facoty warranty.
