So is there anything I can have the dealer do or check for before warranty is done? I really would like to purchase the extended but I don't think I have the money to, unless they are willing to do some kind of payment plan or something.

If you're looking for 0% interest - lots of luck getting that these days

Don't just walk in and say "warranty's running out, check out my car". They'll just look at you and ask "anything wrong?" and guess who'll win that argument.
What I did was prep my service advisor in advance "hey, my warranty's running out and there's a few TNNs I'd like to have checked" to which he said "sure, bring it in". Once I brought the car in, I had a list of TNNs for them to check along with a list of other items, i.e. angle gear leakage, AWD system functionality, etc.. Then, as I left, I added the comment "if you find anything else, let me know". Worked well, everything on my list of TNNs/other was fine and they replaced something in the A/C because they said they heard a whine.
Moral of the story is take it in to have a few specific things checked out and tell them to fix anything else not on the list. Of course, the best check up is yours - check your car inside and out for potential problems, before you take it in

Re: Warranty Running Out in 5 Days!! (S60R1)

ok, I'll keep that in mind. When I was dealing with ford and mentioned TSBs they'd get all huffy and act like "how did you know about that" kind of attitude. So far the Volvo dealership seems to take a more informed approach that the customers aren't idiots or "know it alls". In general I've been real careful not to come in and act like "here is the problem and here is the TSB to cure it" They tend not to like that, even if it turned out to be true.
I've gotten further with reading a TSB/TNN, and then tell the service dept two or three of the symptoms listed in the TNN -verbatim-. I'm not sure how they look up problems but it must be on keywords in the TNNs since they typically pull up the exact TNN I'm after.

Have them inspect the radiator for any leaks. In fact, loosen all your hoses and plugs, and then check everywhere for leaks. They may be obligated to top up all your fluids.
