Re: Warped rear rotors (Johann)

Ridiculous to demand new rotors after 15K miles..

I'd expect rotor to last for over 40k without turning it,a nd that's for the front rotors.

rear rotor you almost never have to turn. unless you track your car, or you live in the hillsides.

then again.. rear rotor doesn't "burn" as quickly as front because inertia pushes wear and tear to the front rotor 90% of the time.

warped at 15k is NOT NORMAL. JohnnyEnglish's car might be the recipient of a bad batch of parts.

exactly! plain and simple; there should be no question from the dealer about replacing this. i can't even believe this is a discussion. i say go to another dealer!

You guys are right i think I am going to try another dealer although not as close as this particular dealer but atleast the work will get done and done without the proverbial "pulling teeth" that must be endured almost every time

i would also send a letter to your service manager at the dealer who is giving you trouble...letting him know that you are extremely unsatisfied with their customer service on such an obvious issue, and that you are taking your business to another dealer. be sure to remind him that the best seller is the word of mouth

Re: (JonnyEnglish)

JonnyEnglish, you are wrong on one account. The Nurburgring is considered a toll road. Therefore insurance will pay. I know, as I smacked the wall last fall and did ~$8000 in damage and USAA payed, no questions asked http://********************/smile/emthup.gif . It was mostly just painting the left side as it scraped all the way down, a couple of small dents, the mirror, the two left wheels, and the left rear wheel bearing. The insurance had to pay the Euro rates for repair so this is why it was so high. Looks as good as new now.

On a side note, I have been banned (by the wife) from going on the ring any more. That's OK though because I'm shipping the car to San Antonio next week.

Where in Texas are you??

Cheers

Johan you are so far off base with your replies, unreal...You track the car you pay. Insurance won't cover you on the track neither will warranty. you blew out your brakes on your dime at the track your problem, mine was daily driving and the fronts are like new so my point is how can the rears be f****d if the fronts are like new. Not driven "granny style" at all spirited 80% of the time but They are not worn out, dude they have failed and not working as they should. there is 75% pad left on the rears so I am not looking for a replacement due to wear but because they are not working as they should. big selling point of the R are the Brembo brakes, and a car that is not tracked should last longer than 15k. There is something that is causing the brakes to run hot and Volvo didn't even offer to find out what has caused it.
Others have had the same issue and had their rears REPLACED upto 45K miles so your responce is moot at best

Like Jesse says..

I could drive the car that way on certain roads in Germany completely street legal. No track thing.

The point is, you buy a "Performance" car yet expect it to be treaded as a base model Escort. Added to that your car has been modified. You didn't do that just for the heck of it. You have been driving the car on power. Probably in total Sunday racer style you never reduced DTSC, just left it on. Warped rotors are the sole result of spirited driving in combination with full active DTSC.

You want to lesson me with your track remark but this goes for you also. If you floor it you will have to pay.

Check your front rotors, they are probably halfway gone or more yet they look "new".

15K is to much for rotors to be covered under warranty. Asking for it is "off base" as you put it.

Like I said, if a dealer decides to do so you are lucky.

But the FACT, Johann, is that in the U.S., rotors WILL be covered under warranty. I know...I work for a retailer.

Volvo policy or dealer gesture? Also at 15K? Can I ship my rotors for warranty?

Yes and yes. That's all I am going to say about this subject.

If you can prove to me that your car is a U.S.-specs R, then ship them over.

oooooooh.....brianq's first post, and its a rather intelligent one too!

(welcome to the forums, man)

Re: (phuz)

It's quite odd, I've had MOST AWD rear rotors on my cars warp from 12K to 18K (all covered by warranty). http://********************/smile/emthup.gif
After that they're usually good for 50K or so, go figure
