I have been wanting to do this for some time, but don't know what to do about the "holes" where the screws(that hold the rack to the roof) go. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.....Thanks

Re: want to take the roof rack off the '81 245.......... (1sciroccofahrer)

Hi:

IPD carries a set of rubber plugs made for the purpose of filling the holes properly. Their catalogue number is CB6608, cost $16.00. The plugs have a centre pin that you press down after the plug is inserted in the hole; the pin causes the plug to expand, creating a snug, leak-free fit.

Do someone a favour- put that roof rack and all its fasteners up for sale! For everyone who wants a roof rack gone, there's someone dying to add a roof rack to a car that doesn't have one.

Thanks for the help
At this stage, we are not going to get rid of the rack, just need to get it off the car so that it doesn't hit the bikes that are hanging from the rafters in the garage. Have a splendid Tuesday

If you're saving the rack for yourself, that's different- I was just trying to be sure that it got saved for someone if you weren't ever going to reinstall it. I see MORE people just throw out stuff they remove, never understanding that someone else might need it desperately. A set of blue lock button collars I need bit the dust that way only last month- a friend threw out four door panels because they got mildewed.

Thanks for the link George
I am going to be ordering them in the coming days. If for some reason the roof rack is no longer needed, or wanted, I will be sure to let the people on this board know first. Have a splendid Tuesday one and all http://********************/smile/emthup.gif
