Automobile depreciation is a fact of life, although some makes and models are worse than others. Fun fact: the average Maserati loses ten percent of its value every time someone looks at it.

But if you're looking for a new car whose value isn't going to plummet as soon as you drive it off the lot, the Volvo V90 might be right for you. According to ALG - a TrueCar-owned company that specializes in projecting vehicle residual values - the 2020 Volvo V90 wagon will hold its value better in three years' time than anything else in its segment.

ALG gave the 2020 Volvo V90 its Residual Value Award in the Premium Full Size Segment, marking the second consecutive year that the V90 collected the award. ALG examines factors such as brand outlook, product competitiveness, and used vehicle performance in determining the winners of its annual Residual Value Awards.

"We are incredibly proud that the V90 has received a Residual Value Award for the second year in a row," says Volvo Car USA President and CEO Anders Gustafsson. "A car purchase is one of the biggest investments a consumer makes, and this recognition gives our V90 customers confidence that they've made a smart decision that will retain its value for years to come."

While it's perhaps a bit early yet to declare this a return to U.S. market relevance for the humble station wagon, the Volvo V90 wagon's back-to-back awards are proof positive that the practical, versatile body style is still earning its keep in the 21st century. More importantly, it's an indication of a job well done for Volvo, which first brought the V90 to market for 2017, with only small changes to the model in the time since.

Well done, Volvo. Now let's go for a hat trick.
