The timing belt thing was halfway a joke earlier, now it isn't. Went to run an errand, car started horribly. RPM bouncing from ~700 to 1,000+ without me touching the accelerator. Decided to park it in the driveway and am going to have to drive the Camry (my first car, 2004 XLE, if you're looking for a solid all-around car I recommend :)) for now. If anyone has any tips for doing the timing belt job DIY please let me know. Can't afford to have it done at a shop right now.

After letting it sit for a day, me and my dad did a visual inspection of the timing belt. Seeing nothing wrong we started it up and it ran fine. Took it to school this morning only to catch a CEL saying something about exhaust valve solenoid. Cleared that (which killed the car :) ) and when it turned back on it ran fine. No clue what that’s about but I’m hoping whatever went wrong fixed itself and I’ll find a time to do the timing belt when I have a little more saved up. Needs to get done soon though.

It did not fix itself, but I found the problem. I got a couple codes regarding the exhaust and intake valve solenoids. Went in to clean them up from any possible contamination or whatever the issue was and found that the gaskets were absolutely soaked and leaking. Cleaned the sensors and ran the car quickly to see if it fixed the problem, rough idle was gone and no codes/major issues. Now I have to clean up the oil that made a mess but IPD is shipping me some new gaskets to prevent that. That should eliminate the majority of my problems right now (knock on wood)

Spent the last two days frequenting junkyards to get some stuff. Found a nice replacement for part of my center console mounding (the reason I went), a shift boot that wasn’t torn, some bolts to replace the one I broke when reinstalling my intake cam solenoid (got VERY lucky and got the end of the bolt out of the block) and little various goodies. On the topic of the solenoid, the gaskets were absolutely shot so some MAF cleaner and new gaskets from IPD solved the problem mentioned prior in the thread.

I am suffering from a rough idle that I've pinned to failing evap purge hoses. Does anyone know what size hoses they are so I can buy bulk from a store nearby? I'll take a picture and post it in a little while for reference
