Just saw a VW Sharan TDi on my way into work out here in Herndon, VA. I didn't think VW was selling them in the US and it didn't have diplomatic tags, just good ol' Virginia vanity plates. It was very nice looking. Definitely better than all the mini vans rolling around here.

VW definitely doesn't sell them in the US.<P>I saw a Lupo on Fairfax Co. Parkway a few weeks ago. I didn't catch the plates, but it was bright blue.<P>I saw a RHD Toyota wagon, also in Herndon, and also with Virginia vanity plates. Nothing unusual about it except the driver was on the wrong side.<P>

It has a Loudoun County tax sticker so they must live in that area. I believe it probably belongs to the family of a German military serviceman or woman, as they are allowed to bring their cars over here and register them for a limited period of time. I have also seen a euro-spec Golf TDI, a red Skoda Octavia sedan (Jetta Clone), and a beautiful Alfa Romeo 156 sedan, all in Loudoun County with Va. registration.<P><p>[This message has been edited by 240 (edited 07-26-2002).]
It was a red Sharan. Yeah, I've seen a few euro cars myself...I guess living in the DC area, I should expect that. I've also seen a euro-spec Golf TDi that was beat to hell, a couple of Polos, a Lupo and the weirdest one was an imported Dodge minivan with a diesel engine. I know they had them in Europe, but I figure it wouldn't be worth importing one...but maybe it's cheaper to bring them over for few years than to buy one here.

Recently I've seen an Opel Astra Cabriolet, Volvo S40 1.9, and more.<P>The Sharan is not sold here, but the Microbus will sell here, and quite possibly with a diesel.

I saw a right hand drive BMW Z3 on my way into work this morning, on 66 in Arlington. I didn't get a chance to see much of it, as it went by while I was exiting, but there was some sort of numerical badge on the right side of the trunklid that I had never seen before on an American car.
over here in los angeles, we get lots of glimpses of prototype cars and also a lot of cars from south of the border. the ones that come to mind are...<P>hyundai micro car--like the SMART car, but hyundai with mexico tags<P>dodge 2-door full size SUV from previous gen platform (like the ford bronco) with mexico tags<P>skyline--mostly r32 i think.<P>the focus was all over irvine before it was released...
There's a young German guy in my area that has a SMART car. I saw it at one of the VW get togethers. It sure is small in person, but definitely a cool little car.<P>There are a few Alfa 156's around northern VA too, but I haven't seen one in a while.<P>
