Re: VST wheels installed (StaggRLee)

Very cool - I like the grey/anthracite color against the silver. Nice contrast. How heavy are these wheels?
Now all you need are some yellow prancing moose center caps

Re: VST wheels installed (Grendel)

They're the VST forged and tip the scales at 19 lbs. I jdropped 36 lbs. over the 18" Pegs.
I was a bit hesitant about the color never having seen them on silver but they match the caliper paint exactly and I'm finding I like the contrast too.
I toyed with different wheels with black centers and polished lips but that is so overdone on BMWs around here.

Nice! Congrats on the purchase! Make sure you keep them in pristine shape because they sure as heck aren't cheap!

Nice look on the silver. I think it would look good on a black R as well. You'll enjoy them on the 8th!!
I just realized you colored the trim on your car. Did you do that recently?

It's much easier to keep the buffer clear of the bottom trim.
With the exception of the front corners, which are painted, it's 3M Scotchcal film. It's held up much better than I thought. Did them about 8 months ago. I dinged up the rear film putting in a yellow top battery. When I decide to get another one painted I'll do the doors too.

Re: VST wheels installed (StaggRLee)

Split 5 spoke are the best looking wheels. Lightweight VSTs to boot,
I've always felt the silver Rs should go with Titanium wheels to provide some contrast. And you did the side trim but left the bottom, also my favorite look.
VERY NICE!
Now you just need some silver tint on rear tails and lose the amber reflectors...

I even ran 2 miles in under 16 minutes, so almost back in shape. (15 minutes was pre-injury time).
A week later, I did a Biodex test at the request of the surgeon. This is a max strength, max endurance torture session to see how you bad knee compares to your good knee. Normally you wait until 6 months to do these, but since I was doing so well and I was leaving, we did it at 5 months. Well, it stressed my patellar tendon so bad, that I twisted my knee a couple of times while packing for the move.
Now it hurts to even walk, I can't run, and the knee is stiff/painful all day. Sorry for the "little Inga" remark. Thought "you" had girl.
He's real fond of having his picture taken isn't he?
Bummer on your knee, take it easy and slow for the time being.
That was a pretty severe injury. You can't just excercise your way through it. Re: VST wheels installed (24Hours)

wheels are HOT. car looks too high though... IMHO.
lowere it and it will look way better.
if wheel color were a choice - I'd stick with silver. i'm not a big fan of titanium wheels on a silver car.... but that's just me.
given the weight reduction, do you see/feel any gain in acceleration?
what did those cost????

Re: VST wheels installed (23109VC)

It's already riding on TME springs. I think it looks higher than it is without the lower sills color-matched. Really didn't want to go Eibach-low for alignment and clearance issues.
As to cost - let's just say that since these were an iPd customer reneg on an order - that I didn't pay retail and they were only "marginally" more than the cast ones. And far less than any other comparable weight forged or 3-piece wheel from the likes of HRE or similar.
I can't say the car really feels any quicker and if it is, it isn't something you can tell on a butt dyno. Steering feels a bit lighter though.
Not surprised that the grey on silver isn't everyone's cuppa but I like it and can always have them powder coated silver if I get bored or tired of the look. For now I'm liking it.

i guess i'm just used to the look o fmy car, with EVOLVE's springs, which lower the car more. I like the "no gap" between he fender/tire look. of course, thelower one gets, the more clearance issues there are too...so it's a give/take thing...
definitely wheels you won't see on many other cars!!!!

3M Scotchcal film

off topic here- where can I get the 3m film to for the moldings. My car is silver also, and I wouldn't mind giving it a shot.
I was going to paint and then cover with clear film, so if I could find that and try it out, it might save me some time.

Any good local reprographics shop can order it. They probably even stock it.
Search the R forum archives for "ScotchCal" in post bodies. You'll find more info.
