My VR lit up (electrical was fine) but nothing happened. I called my dealer and they told me to 1) lock and unlock the doors with the remote fob and wait 30 seconds; 2) lock and unlock the doors with the key; 3) try starting the car. It worked.
Evidently, the computer may not recognize the key at times, so it has to be reset. Perhaps many of you know this, but this is a new one for me. I was going to call for a flatbed. Hope this helps someone else.
-Wm.

Re: VR Wouldn't Start - Reset Key ([email protected])

This happened to me only once. Of course I was in the boonies, had no cell reception and my four-month old was in the backseat. Let's just say it was panic-inducing, but the car started on the fourth try.
I think my R was playing a joke on me - such a devilish little car.
- Tryg

Under certain rare situations, the vehicle's communications system can think it's being stolen, and will activate the starter kill. Happens on occassion.
Easiest way to reset is to stick the master key into the lock on the driver's door. lock it, unlock it, lock it, unlock it. Then start. That will reset the system.
