Quick question for those VR owners who have purchased tires at Costco:
Right now Costco is running a sale of $70 off any 4 Michelins. Being that the Pilot Sport All Season Plus is one of the top two choices for the next tire on my VR, and they include all the other stuff (rotations, Nitrogen fills, road hazard, etc) it’s not a bad deal and I’m seriously considering buying these tires and there (no comments Pete).
I seem to recall in the past that certain people have had issues with Costco selling them those tires for the VR. If I recall, it has to do with the load rating being lower than the OE tires load rating. And in fact, if you go on the Costco website, they list no tires available for the VR. Has anyone recently encountered this? Has anyone purchased the Pilot A/S Pluses from a Costco for a VR?
I just want to be prepared for a fight in case that comes up.
P.S. Anyone bought tires from the Costco at Rt. 29 / West Ox Rd. in FFX?
Just go and look at the tires, all the markings are on them.
People love Costo's pricing on tires and I haven't heard of any complaints (so far)

I know of no store that would do that unless it the tire was something like an 85 rating.
97 is overkill anyway

In an age of litigation, I can see why installing anything lower MAY be refused.

I had these put on last summer when they were running $80 off a set of 4. The load rating is lower, but I have not noticed any ill effects. I keep the tire pressure around 40PSI. I was going to have them put on the BFgoodrich G-Force AS tires (they had to bring them in). I am glad I went with the PS. I also had them add in the TPMS I bought off of Tirerack (they did not charge me to install).
One thing to keep in mind is that your not getting all of the extras for free. You have to maintain you costco membership in order to have the car serviced. So at $50 a year, that should factor into you decision on pricing.

I just went to look at Costco since I need new tires. I got 32K out of the original tires.
Since I have 18in wheels, they said they will not mount the 91 load rating AS plus tires.
I have a 60R though and not a 70.
Going with Perilli all seasons from tirerack instead with 95 load rating.

I have them on my SR. Love them! No problems...Tire pressure should be kept around 39 psi....

If they give you any trouble can you just take the rims in? I know its a pita to put the car on jack stands, etc. but if you really want those tires from them.....

A reliable source tells me the Michelins sold at Costco, Sears and other places where the retailer's name appears on the sidewall are not the same compound as you get from Tire Rack and other non-discounted dealers.
Anyone else heard this?

You would need cross reference the product number. Costco often sells items made specifically for them. Some Sony TV's have numbers that differ from anything they have on the Sony site for product information. I found out trying to compare TV's with Best Buy. It is hard to say if they are any less quality or made of different materials though. It is possible, but wouldn't that be more of a safety concern for Michelin to try and do such a thing in the modern era of lawsuits?
The Michelin PS2's that I bought from Sears do not have any indication they were purchased from them, except the lug nut that I can't get off. It must be a new type of signature.

However I don't want to join and not be able to buy them.
I am also not just joining for the tires. I'd likely cancel my BJ's membership and switch to Costco (it's 5 minutes closer anyway).

If they are being picky they will not even mount them on the wheels unless you have the car there. I recall a BJs store refusing to mount S or H-rated (can't remember which) tires on my old NA 850 many years ago as the owners' manual indicated V-rated tires.

Re: VR Owners - Michelin Pilot A/S Plus at Costco - Any issues? (Needsdecaf)

My problem was that I bought the tires under my old membership at Costco. My wife gets a free membership through her work. So now I have to maintain my membership just to get the tires rotated and keep the road hazard. Even though I get a membership with my wife, you have to have the tires serviced under the membership they were purchased under, a really stupid rule.

I actually had a Costco employee call out to get my attention once. She had been hiding some stuff for me that I had been looking for a few weeks earlier. I think I spend too much time at Costco!
