Re: (phuz)

I am not "speaking" for Volvo or Ford...but I don't think either company's corp. mgmnt. is trying to "make a moral" statement...
They ARE however advertising to a market segment that has traditionally been good Volvo customers...so what is the issue? Because they are gay
Open your mind a little...............They are trying to sell cars....not make a political/moral/religious statement!

I was just bothered because it is against my personal views...
I don't hate polygamist homosexuals in any way... people have the right to live how they want... and I completely respect that.
Your right, a lot of other car companies advertise to the same markets.
Personally, I just wish Volvo would be more neutral in their advertising.

And they would be? Come on now, Ford is not a social action interest group, it is a car manufacturer. They sell "wheels" and want everybody, and they mean everbody, to buy theirs--just like GM, Toyota, Chrysler, Honda, VW, Audi, well you get it... don't you?
By the way, Ford does not exert editorial control over its advertising outlets, unless, of course, they are the publisher. To deduce that they support homosexual polygamy is a stretch, at best, and really, just wrong; I don't suppose that you asked their customer relationship center about that?
"people have the right to live how they won't," I'll take this as a spelling error, but I can't help but laugh at its potential as a Freudian slip. If you respect someone's right to live as they want, why bother getting so huffed about an ad?
By the way, what's with the "small sect" label? I think it's time to enter the 21st century and realize that sexuality is not a lifestyle. And certainly not something that is chosen. The earth wasn't created in 7--ok, 6--days and there is more to anthropology and biology than what was known 2000 years ago.

Morally right to boycott a company???
Well, if Volvo had ads in a porn magazine (who does that harm?)...
I think a boycott would be in order.
They would just be trying to sell cars...

Re: (Bradley W)

If your problem with the ads is that in general you think VOLVO should be more neutral. Ok I might tend to agree on some level in a perfect world. But I do not see a problem with the ads in any way as it is really. But I also think TIT for TAT (pun intended) that VOLVO should then NOT advertize in PLAYBOY or HUSTLER or JUGS or HOOTERS as well. Or maybe Home and Garden,House and Stream,Martha Steward,Vanity Fair. Nor do I think that a ad in the BAPTIST FREE PRESS Ad Book should be there. When I am a Catholic. See my point? Everyone has a opinion and view. And if we all do not avertize in one or the other or this and that for that reason. WE WILL never have one advertizement EVER! No? Game Set Match. I agree with Bob and weird again for me, Yannis too.
That was a good discussion, I agree that the ad is not bad by itself in any way
And AFA is very biased.
Would you consider this crossing the line?
http://photos1.blogger.com/blo...e.jpg

Okay... http://www.commercialcloset.or...=1196
Bottom Right - if you buy your Volvo now we will donate $300 to the HRC (Human Rights Campaign is the largest national gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender political organization)
I just won't to confirm that Volvo supports this movement...

It is a theory backed up by a multitude of independent observations and measurements, i.e. facts; it is not a statement of faith.

It wouldn't offend anyone but the biggest prudes (especially since you didn't mention that it was run in a gay mag). The ad would work in any venue, really, nothing specifically gay about it at all.
Regarding the AFA petition, it's based on alot more than this ad. It started many months ago when Ford (deeply in debt) gave many millions to some gay advocacy group (I don't recall the details, but I'm sure AFA's site has them easy to find). Ford obviously has decided they'll gain more gay purchases than lost traditional Christian sales.

Belief is an acceptance of something, therefore you accept that the earth was not created in 6 days... that is your belief of how the earth was created...
I do not accept that the earth was not made in 6 days... that is my belief.
Independent observations... so people who saw the earth created?
