You can get the DLO version that plugs into the 12V outlet for $75 on Amazon. The Volvo version lists for $139 (!), which presumably doesn't include whatever labor the dealer would charge to wire it to the electrical system. Sounds like you don't even get any extra features. From the Volvo accessory page description (verbatim; note lovely grammar, punctuation, and capitalization -- way to sell it, Volvo):
A perfect solution for playing your iPod in your Volvo. Simply insert your dockable iPod into the dash-mounted holder and the Volvo FM transmitter plays ipod audio over the cars FM radio. Play, charge and cradle your iPod in this simple yet secure device. Compatible with all iPod Models except iPod Shuffle
Not that this product was ever destined to wow us. but Volvo appears to have underwhelmed by as much as they possibly could.

I don't know what I expected, but that is really disappointing. Though this seems to follow a pattern of Volvo non-admission, admissions that they can't even figure out the MOST system. Re-branded Motorola Bluetooth and re-branded DLO transmitter? About the only thing they can offer is a hidden power cord.
When I e-mailed them I got a response that basically said that they were working on getting Satellite radio in the S40 MOST system before the iPod. That is like trying to integrate CD players before tape decks in 1985. The iPod is big now, 14 million over christmas versus something like 10 million satellite radio subscribers in all.
Disappointed.

Re: (richarded)

haha. completely pointless. would rather just stick to my own FM tranmitter, at least it has the functionality that i can take it out of the car and use it to play over hi-fis with stereos, and it cost about 50 dollars less.

Wow, this is worthless. The illumination doesn't even match the green color in the Volvo (the blue matches old VW interior). What a joke.
Don't even waste $75 on the DLO version. Just get a $25 RoadTrip+. The quality is great and the cost is equivalent to what you're getting. I can't believe that some companies are charging over $100 for FM transmitters.
Volvo, you just lost a bit of credibility in my book.

What a shame. Whomever sold Volvo on the MOST system radios needs to be fired. It seems like most other car manufacturers offer some real solution.

Ya know I've seen that one in stores but never thought about it. The location of the transmitter in the car is key to getting a good signal.
If you put it in the center console's jack at the rear, it would put it directly in line with the radio antenna, located in the rear of the passenger compartment. Then that cord would allow the iPod itself to live up front where you can control it.
In my V50 using my iTrip, it makes a huge difference where I put the iPod. In the cupholder is the only useful place, I wager this Kensington unit improves on that...
Hmm.
Tom.

I refuse to buy a FM transmitter, until a true wired solution comes out, I'm going to continue burning my mp3 collection to CD. So far, out of about 600 albums, I have 163 albums burnt!

Got it for $45 on Amazon and it performs about what I expected - static here and there and the need to regularly change stations. However, when out of the crowded spectrum of most cities, it actually performs surprisingly well.
Like all of you, I'm super disappointed with Volvo but it is what it is. In the meantime, the Kensington FM Transmitter is the best FM transmitter out there.

Check this out. I bought one for my car, a little pricey but it looks and works great.
http://www.proclipusa.com/Defa...e=USA
