It finally happened. My brother who own's a 5spd 325is with a custom cat back, chip, and mild induction and ingition mods, thought his car would kill mine. He has been talking alot of trash on how my 855R feels quick but his is faster etc.etc. Well the street light test don't lie. I thought for sure he'd get me off the line then I'd catch up and pass him. Not quite like that at all. Out of the hole I pulled a fender on him. Shifted into second about the same time I heard a loud bark from his shift, but boost was way up for me and I put about 2 1/2 car lengths between us by the time 3rd gear was needed. We raced two more times because he was in a state of disbelief I think. Almost the exact same results. Before I went home He says to me "You know those volvos are pretty nice" I then rubed in the fact that he just got smoked by a station wagen and I'd see him later. It was classic.
Good kill, especially when it is your own brother, a BMW, and being beaten by a station wagon!
-Drew

Good story, I'm going out tonight to see what we can line up against. Third weekend in a row... should be fun again.
You could hear mixed reactions when the R cruises through the various hot spots along the Pike. Everything from "A wagon... WTF" to "smoke em up old man" and "smoke em up - do it for the kids" Hillaraious. Every 10 seconds another car was doing a burnout in a parkinglot where 100 or so imports had gathered. Cool stuff for boring old Connecticut.
Kids were home asleep but the two matching booster seats were in place just to rub it in when we beat someone.

I had my first "encounter" this weekend as well. I was cruising down the interstate just over the posted limit when someone in a "riced out" Dodge Intrepid (!) zooms by doing about 80 mph. He had really loud exhaust, wheels with incorrect offset (sticking out beyond the car) and some stupid "fear everything" sticker on the rear window. I resisted the urge to persue for a while, since I figured it wasn't worth the wasted fuel. Temptation got the better of me though, so I whistled up a little boost and in no time flat I was on his butt, braking hard to match speed. He moved over to the right and allowed me to get beside him. He punched it, which created a lot of noise and a moderate amount of velocity. Just to make things interesting I let him get about 200 yards ahead before I put the pedal to the floor and held it there. By the time I passed him I was pushing 130mph and blew by him as if he were stopped (with a friendly "bye bye" wave as I went past, of course .
Afterwards I felt a little foolish for the extreme display of speed, but it was fun nonetheless. That was the first time I've had my R over 100mph, and it was rock solid and still pulling hard. It frightens me a bit to think how fast it really will go!
The really fun thing to think about is his reaction, since he no doubt felt his car was fast. And since my car has no "turbo" badges or other nonsense, he had no idea what was in store for him when he picked a fight.

Yeah, it is fun using a 4-door and creaming a over-rated sports coupe! I took the liberty of making a few guys in their modified 89-91 mustang GT feel real bad. Going down 270 at 9am on Saturday, these guys decided to tail-gate me and pretty much gohst my every move. I was doing a comfortable 80 mph and tried to ignore them. I backed off and let them get in front of me, they opened it up while going by. One of the passengers gave me the bird as they went by. That just got me going, so I rolled up the windows and hit the gas. I could hear the turbo spooling over the souind of this 302 mustang! Before you know it we are both going 120+ and I just started to pull away, inch by inch. We did this game for about 45 more seconds and then he just backed off. (I guess he realized that I was not going to back off nor was he going to catch up.) Talking about making the ego swell, that just did it for me! I have always hated those damn stangs, and to kill one hands-down made me so happy. That and the fact I was still getting 24 MPg after the race was kinda cool too. One must love those Saturday morning encounters. I just have to kick myself for being stupid. I could have killed someone had something gone wrong. Speed is fun as is the ego-trip that comes with winning a race, but the risk is not worth it. I think that I am going to have to work on the holding-back thing and just keep my fast car to myself. I'll just have to take it to the track on Fridays.
Play safely!
Prospero

(heck, I don't even shake like that when I go flying!) After it was over I realized that it was really a bonehead move (despite being fun at the time).
My wife just shook her head as if to say "You're 35, for God's sake! Grow up!"

Funny part is, we all have to learn the hard way. Thankfully nothing has gone wrong. I just have to keep in mind that every person in a car around me is someone's special one and I know that I would die if something bad happened to my "special one". It is strange the affect a woman can have in a man's life, I just want to keep her safe and happy. By driving a bit more on the defensive side, I feel just that much better.
Prospero
