Okay, you all may think I'm on crack or something, but I think I had a good idea.
Instead of the XC90, Volvo should build a minivan that slots in above the rest of the market (or bases out along wiht the Chrysler). No manufacturer makes anything like it, and Volvo could be the first, though they should base it on the S80 and NOT the windstar.
This to me is more in Volvo's image, though I could be wrong. Volvo is safety and family oriented, and what could be moreso than a minivan?

I think you might be on drugs too, and while I don't think I'd ever buy a minivan, the more upright style is all the rage in Europe and Japan.
Honda makes a sporty minivan for Europe and Japan also. (You can see it in our Frankfurt Gallery).
If Volvo did a minivan, an AWD R version might be cool. I doubt they'd sell many, but they'd be the only one on the market...at least in the USA.
I think the Odyssey is the benchmark. That seems to be the best engineered minivan made for US tastes. That rear seat that folds into the floor is VERY cool.
[This message has been edited by [email protected] (edited 12-28-2001).]

Remember, Ford is calling the shots now and they have a minivan already. Minivans don't appeal to the luxury segment as much so Volvo most likely has been told to be happy with their station wagon if they have had any thoughts on the minivan.
After saying all that, the SUV segment has been THE hot segment the past few years and Volvo needs to get in there or they will continue to lose sales. I am saying that and I really don't like SUV's and my wife (notice I say my wife, not me...) drives a minivan. But that is the way the market is going right now and Volvo is smart to go where the sales are.
Eric
