Sales results for July, and year-to-date:
VOLVO BRAND JULY 2009 U.S. SALES
--------------------------------
July % Year-To-Date %
---- ------------
2009 2008 Change 2009 2008 Change
---- ---- ------ ---- ---- ------
S40 525 431 21.8 4,073 7,203 -43.5
V50 181 120 50.8 954 1,151 -17.1
S60 1,461 409 257.2 5,016 6,720 -25.4
S80 602 745 -19.2 5,391 7,657 -29.6
V70 241 234 3.0 1,154 2,336 -50.6
XC60 762 0 NA 4,289 0 NA
XC70 722 668 8.1 3,536 6,302 -43.9
XC90 850 1,546 -45.0 5,613 13,011 -56.9
C70 685 540 26.9 3,745 4,144 -9.6
C30 412 431 -4.4 2,416 2,781 -13.1
--- --- ----- -----
Volvo Brand 6,441 5,124 25.7 36,187 51,305 -29.5
As you can see if it werent for the S60's in the inventories of dealers the sales figures would be quite different. Its nice to see sales increasing model by model, but just look at the S80 sales which was just recently facelifted, 20% less than July09! It just shows how quickly volvo cars lose sales when they are into their 2nd or 3rd year on the market. I can understand how the xc90 has lost more than 45%, since it is really an old model, but Volvo needs to do something about it... By now the Germans would have introduced a new model already...
Re: Volvo US Sales (volvocu)

S80 sales drop is due to the fact that last year VFNA had a special lease for the base car. this brought people in. We don't have such a program this year.

Re: Volvo US Sales (gascos80)

yeah I wish 5-6... But the reality is volvo apparently (not living in US) was doing a campaign called safe & sound which assumingly increased showroom traffic. Besides the s80 sales is down tremendously, and the xc90 is going doooown
Wouldnt hold my breath

Its being extended AT LEAST through August. Volvo isn't stupid; look for this program to hang around as long as its working.

It will be nice to see the sales numbers once the new s60 comes out. As for the XC90 and S80, both models are nice, but they need a face lift bad.

Now the 9 months without a mid size sedan are certainly going to hurt...

Toyota just posted its FIRST loss since the 1930s!
It has already been pointed on here that VW and Volvo were the only 2 European car manufacturers to experience a positive trend over 2008 last month. Out of the 10 Volvo models listed above, 7 show an improvement in sales over July of last year. THE POINT IS: why "freak" over S80 sales? Its like complaining about paying taxes after getting a $100K raise at work!

NOBODY is setting the world on fire here. Toyota is down, Honda,Mercedes, BMW, all down.
You can have the BEST product on the market, people just aren't buying cars right now. Especially expensive cars. If it was just Volvo, I could see that you have a point. However, since the slump is industry wide you can't just hang Volvo out to dry.

The local dealer was "complaining" about the fact that they're essentially out of inventory due to the success of this campaign, so they're constantly looking in other dealers' inventories to find the cars their customers want.
All in all, it sounds like a pretty good problem to have....
