I slid into a curb today going 10-15 km/h and the side curtain airbag deployed. Too sensitive? Anyways, everything with the car is fine other than a cracked rim and some alignment issues. I brought it to an auto-body shop and they mentioned that an airbag replacement could prevent the seat belt from functioning properly. Do you guys have any experience with an airbag replacement and if what they mentioned is true? I have a 2015 Volvo s60 T5 if that helps.

Were you NOT wearing your seatbelt? As far as I know, airbag deployments in low(er) speed incidents are due to the driver not wearing their seatbelts.

My daughter was in a collision with another vehicle last month where her collision avoidance activated (she was going less than 30mph) mitigated the impact a bit, and her airbags did not deploy as she was wearing her seatbelt. The other vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed. There was extensive damage to the front of her car and was a total loss.

Wow, I'm surprised your side airbag went off on such a little impact.

Did the body shop say why airbag replacement would interfere with the seat belt?
Isn't one on the top and the other near the floor (seat belt tensioner)?
Snow already in 403 country :(

The answer is the same as I told you yesterday on Reddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/Volvo/comments/dohgz6/volvo_s60_side_curtain_airbag_deployed/

Airbag *replacement* won't cause the seat belt to malfunction. Airbag *deployment* might.

The seatbelts have pyrotechnic devices called pretensioners that snug up the belts in an accident. If the airbag deployed, there is a possibility that the pretensioners fired as well. Therefore you need to check the pretensioners and replace as necessary because the pretensioners are single use.
