Here is a picture of a new aftermarket spoiler for the Volvo S60. It comes with a LED brakelight as well. I think that it looks good compared to the S80 spoiler. Unpainted it is $165, painted it is $239. You can get it at the The Spoiler Depot What do you all think?

Volvo S60 Spoiler

-Drew
[This message has been edited by InDy (edited 02-14-2001).]

I am curious as to how this spoiler mounts. It will undoutably require precise drilling in the trunk lid for the LED cable if not also for the spoiler itself. Also, given that the S60 requires software updates for anything that is installed, such as fog lights, CD changer, etc., does there need to be a software update for this?
Regards,
Scotty

Spoilers like this are just a little too much like those on heavily modified Japanese makes in my estimation. Zender makes a nice one for the newer Passats, it's more of a rear lip, it doesn't stick up.

I am pretty sure for the installation of this spoiler, there is no software download required because there is only splicing involved. The negative (black/white) and positive (green/red) wires from the spoiler are spliced into the wires leading to the tail-lights. Appearently, each car has a precise and unique template that is used to drill the holes for the spoiler. They send the template and instructions with the spoiler. Check out this link for the instructions, they look fairly simple:
Spoiler Installation Instructions
Personally, I think that an M5 type lip spoiler would be more suited for the S60.
-Drew

It looks pretty cool---subtle and not too
over-bearing. Price seems to be right. Only
question I have is the multiplicity of LED
brake lights--lots of lights--is this good?

But, to my taste, why in the world (literally) SPOIL such a well-designed rear end? Functionally or aerodynamically, such a spoiler would have minimal if any effect. Certainly there's no point in generating downward force on the rear end of a front drive car. So, bottom line: I don't get it. Put the money in something useful.

Volvo S60 Spoiler

-Drew
[This message has been edited by InDy (edited 02-14-2001).]

I guess that some prefer cosmetic/looks and others prefer performance/potential. That is the great thing about upgrading wheels, they add both. But, at least it is good to have choices.
-Drew
As for the electronics, we have installed approximately 15 of these spoilers at a local dealership with no problems.
Regards,
Scotty
