I am so beyond mad and fluster at this point. I took my 05 s60r into the shop the other day to have them look at the awd to test it. Also to have them adjust my waste gate on the turbo. I have just got done putting on the ipd boost kit, and ipd tvc. The dealership will not adjust my STOCK waste-gate because I have after market parts on my car. The only way they will work on it is if i take it completely to stock. Now I am screwed because there the only dealer in the kansas city area the closet one is like 200 miles away vs this one that like 2 miles from me.

I was trying to adjust the waste gate my self with the ipd waste gate tool and after moving it around I found out that there tool wont work for the R models so that the reason why I have to go to the dealer is they are the only one that has the tool that like 1200 bucks.

Yea my dad worked at volvo in Wichita, Kansas City and Omaha. The service in kc was his least favorite. One of the techs here in Omaha is awesome. I am not the most mechanically inclined or knowledgable but he works on my car with me Saturdays after they are closed.
Sorry you are stuck with them. Did that dealership recently get sold from the Hendrix family?

So what is Overland Park - Is that the dealer replacing Volvo of Kansas City. John Janes who was the wholesale manager in parts was awesome to deal with. I think he is at Overland now so maybe try to see if you can talk to him. I think he is part of the Volvo club there too.

I'm sure John would appreciate your quoting him on a negative comment (he may or may not have made) after his name (first and last) were mentioned in the same thread. Companies that are considering hiring people (or not) have Google too.
This is meant to be more of a "public service message" than a personal attack so I hope you don't take it that way.

Isn't KC kinda big for only 1 dealer?

#8 ·
Very true xcalibr. That why i never put people last names on forms.

Yes we are big for 1 dealer. We use to have 2 dealers tell hendrix drop them. So they down sized.

Im just wanting to let people know that if your going to OVERLAND PARK VOLVO that they will not work on your car if you have after-market parts.

This is not the first time I have heard Overland Park Volvo mentioned negatively here on SS. Maybe there are some former Master Techs from there you can look up to do side work?? Or maybe you can follow them to wherever they moved on to...

We never had 2 Volvo dealers. Only 1. Volvo of OP is defintely impossible to deal with, and their parts are EXCESSIVELY expensive.

I can count threads on my R and you could adjust yours accordingly. Perhaps that will get you close enough to get to someone with a real testing device...

+1 on the dissatisfaction of Volvo of OP. Seems like almost a side project for Mazda of OP at this point. I think KC is big enough for two dealers, but sales volume of Volvo is too low, especially with Hendrick selling nearly every other brand in the city then dropping Volvo. Economies of scale for competitors may put Volvo of OP out.

People in KC are smart honestly. They buy used... I am serious too. KC is one of the most fiscally sound cities in america.

I know they are far but I hear Volvo of Wichita is better now because Gorges sold it to a different dealer.

I feel your pain, Tulsa downsized to just one dealer and it is them or nothing.

I took it up to omaha dealer and they did a great job.

Only thing is I don't know who took my rear tires off either volvo of overland park or the omaha dealer because before I took it to volvo of overland park I torque my wheel at 100ftlb and over last weekend doing the rear camber swap I couldn't get my impact gun to touch it and took my torque wrench and set it to 250 ftlb and it click so some one torque my wheels well above 250 ftlbs

You may have better luck at an independent shop - they wouldn't be as picky about working on a car that has been modified. Have you looked for one in the area?

FWIW, I'm in KC and I have a working VIDA/VICE if anyone ever needs to diagnose.

For service, I use George's Saab. They are extremely honest, if nothing else. I once dropped off our Elise (predecessor to the Exige) for a clutch. Since they'd never done one before, I printed off a fresh copy of the manual and set it in the passenger seat. It quoted 11 hours to do the clutch.

They did it in 5 hours, only charged for 5 hours, and never even touched the manual. Those guys are real mechanics.

There did indeed used to be 2 Volvo dealers in Kansas City - one over in MO (off 435 near Blue pkwy? ) and one on the Kansas side (near where OP Volvo is now, but I think up on Merriam). This was in the 80's when I lived up there. The one on the MO side was the better for service and even took care of old ones (like my 71 142E that was amazing) Then they all closed, moved, shifted, etc... and now we have what we have.

FWIW, there used to be a guy in KCK over off of 635 and Shawnee Drive (Maple Hill area) that was really really good with Volvos.

Now we don't have Gorges here in Wichita any more, and the guy that bought it is another car dealer that had Saturn blasted out from under him - but he has a good feel and idea about how to run a dealership. I do like that parts are not now MSRP plus any more. Haven't had work done there (since I do pretty much everything myself) but the decent technicians that I remember from back when were still out there... so that is a good thing.

They also follow the Volvo Service Advantage regimen (which might have been a condition of getting the franchise but anyways...) you can go in for service and get free software updates now.

Ah PP, I was only 3 in 90 so yeah only one dealership since I was aware of cars lol.

I will recommend Kansas City Autosport for non-diy jobs. They have done a ton of our cars properly and never once felt like we left with less money or service than the job required.

I was going to go to KC Autosport but they where book out a couple weeks. So I end up going out to omaha dealer which they where very friendly and have honest prices. Plus it was a great excuse to do a mini date night getaway with the girl friend.

The main goal was to give everyone in the KC area a heads up if you have any type of mod they wont work on the car.

The only mods I have on the car is ipd coil pack, ipd tcv, ipd boost kit with new blow off valve and block plate.

Next on my list of mods are down pipe and new exhausts as mine starting to rust out anyways and either jzw or Hilton tune.

Glad Gorges fixed you up, they helped us out last summer when we were playing in the World Series up there and our XC90's alternator shot craps on a Friday at 5:00! They got it in the next morning and had us back on the road in-between games, the next day. It wasn't cheap, but I thought we would be stuck there until early the next week, but they did awesome!

Just found out that they screwed me. A couple of years ago volvo of kansas city said that they would warranty the exhaust bracket when I was asking how about to do a recall for all the s60R because of that loud annoying rain squeal. They told me they would give me the part free and I would pay 25 bucks to it installed. The part was about 200 bucks. When I working on my car I just took my exhaust down to work on the haldex unit and notice in the back right under the awd unit I had longer bolts and geto fix where the put a nut in between the frame and the bracket to lower it down. Then i was looking at the bracket that goes right after the cat and notice it dont look like the bracket that was the one that was order.

Mine only has 1 grom and the new bracket has 2

I'll give them a chance I guess. Still under warranty on the XC until october and driving it yesterday I started to feel some serious rotor warp.

They did say the pads were about 3-4mm last checkup (last august or so) and siad bring it back next oil change. The pads are still padding, so no direct contact, but I KNOW they are getting close.

We'll see I guess! 5 year Safe and Secure was amazing for sure!

Overall I think they are good guys. They will sometimes get put in tough spots just due to the expense of working on these cars. It'd be a tough gig to have to call someone and tell them they need a new alternator and the final bill is $1600, or they need a new ignition tumbler and it has to come from Sweden and it'll be $700! That's not fun I'm sure. I've had great experience with them overall, especially Steve, he's a great dude. There are two others in there as well that are really nice and work really hard to make sure you are happy. The free loaner service is worth a LOT to me, where I can have a brand new car immediately and get to work and not have to worry about catching a lift.

Anyway, good luck with everything.
